nissan terrano emitting excessive smoke

I am looking at buying a Nissan terrano here in UK it has only 72000 miles on clock but it is blowing out a lot of black smoke the filters are changed and the turbo has new bearings and seals.. the power is well down.. the ABS light is flashing but faults not connected or are they??.. it will fail the annual MOT or safety test because of emissions there does need some welding on wheel arch but I can do that.. any ideas????

Do not buy, get one that is in good shape to start with.

It is a Nissan "tweaked" Renault product of sheet metal changes and? Excess fuel delivery could be a variety of issues from restricted air intake to bad injectors. If it is not showing codes, it could be expensive to diagnose. I would look at a less tweaked vehicle. Jim

I had a similar problem with a Range Rover Discovery, she suddenly started laying down smoke as if a battle cruiser was after her. Turned out to be the EGR valve. Diesel shop cleaned it and put in a can of Standine Injector Cleaner. problem solved.
