MF 135 Perkins Starter Trouble

bought a new starter for my Massey that doesn't look exactlly like the old one though the sight I ordered it through says it's the correct starter. The wires don't match up the same and there aren't instructions on what to hook up where. I know where the positive wire goes but not the others. I included a pic of the new starter if anyone has any input it would be appreciated, trying to get everything geared up for spring. Thanks.

So, how many wires do you have going to the starter?

Looking at wiring diagrams, I see the battery cable and one smaller wire that both go on the large top lug.

Then there should only be one other wire. That wire actuates the solenoid.

I am assuming the old starter only had 2 terminals, the large battery cable lug, and the small solenoid
actuator terminal.

Is all this correct or are there additional wires?

Now, to the new starter.

There are a couple different configurations possible.

We know the top lug is for the battery cable, and any other smaller wires that have a large eye terminal
that will fit over the lug.

Then there are the 2 spade terminals...

There are 2 possibilities. You'll need an ohm meter to determine what does what.

First, ground one lead of the ohm meter. Touch the other lead to one of the spade terminals. If you get a
reading, that is the terminal to use to actuate the solenoid.

If the reading is open, try the other terminal. If that one reads to ground, use it.

If neither read to ground, try reading across the 2 spade terminals. If you get a reading, connect the
actuator wire to one terminal, make a jumper and ground the other.

If you don't have an ohm meter, you can find out by trial and error. It will either work or not.

If you are uncomfortable doing this, look for a brand name on the starter, try searching for a wiring
diagram, or a phone number to get some answers.
