My nine year old grandson *is quite conservative and tends to worry about how he may get injured doing anything at all. It came up that his mom asked him if he would be able to spend a few hours with me while she attends a lady's tea at our church. He was originally all for it because I do interesting things with him. He started to have second thoughts due to some of the things that he has seen me do as well as what others have told them. He told his mom that he loves his papa and would love to come over, but he is worried because I do some"wild" things.

LOL, Well WILD MAN, tone it down a bit! Ain't it grand to be a granddad!

Cute story. I hope he gets over his fears.

Sounds like the kid is way, way to coddled.

At nine years old we were all balls to the walls, go for broke.

We got hurt some, but not seriously.

Maybe he just needs a dose of wildness. Dont want him growing up to be one of those college age pansies who need designated safe spaces so they dont see or hear anything that offends em.

That's awful funny. I have thought for a
long time that there should be a name for
the phobia of things being unsafe, I know a
couple people like this. Always worrying
about what COULD happen. It doesn't sound
like much much of a life if you are always
worrying about how you could get a scratch.

Hey Wild man Clarks Trading Post Is looking for a replacement for Wolf man, Tryouts are next month. You need a scruffy beard and dirty old raggy clothes but you get to drive that old beatup car and chase the train. LOL.

One of my grandsons is STILL like that. Scared of his own shadow and he's 18!

Has to be coaxed and led by the hand to try ANYTHING new, can come up with a million excuses why he shouldn't do it.

I despair of him ever growing a set.

Only thing I can think of that may contribute to his timidity is that his older brother was the exact opposite. Definitely a "hold my beer" type. He never got seriously hurt, but did spend quite a bit of time/money making up for his adventures that didn't quite go to plan.

Like the ones that can't handle "nnalert 2016"
sidewalk chalked all over campus?

Unbelievably, the school is spending money on something besides a water hose for them.

I saw that headline too! Couldon't believe someone would say that in public! I would be ashamed of being that easy to "scare". Make no mistake, I have very little use for The Donald but if someone supports him it is hardly racism or any other ism.

What were you doing that gave a nine year old second thoughts? I have a few friends that are a bit "accident prone". They always have a great story to tell, some could rival a Patrick McManus book: like the one time "Forgetting to secure the tilt tongue on a trailer and then watched an ice fishing house slide across the oncoming lane in front of a Highway Patrolman". They have a great time until something breaks or someone gets hurt, so I've learned not to participate in their adventures.

Well, I have to admit to still being an adrenaline junkie. He sees that when there is a birthday party with Lazer tag or paintball that instead of sitting with the parents, Papa is out on the court or field running with the kids. He hears talk about my snowmobile crashes, (None this last season though). How I used to get burned regularly while fighting fires. Or many injuries while skiing or racing motorcycles. I suppose hearing enough can give a small kid ideas.

My dad had only daughters and from a young age, probably 8 or 9, he was letting us do "wild" things and I'm glad he did! Helped us toughen up quite a bit. Plus, life ain't about being "safe". If everything I did wasn't a little wild, it wouldn't be any fun!

My sister in law worries
too much about my
niece's and nephews
getting hurt. Climbing
trees, doing crazy
stuff. They can hardly
climb 10 feet in a tree
and they are "too high".
I suppose I understand
where she is coming
from, but if you use
smaller trees to break
your fall, you went high
enough. I just tell them
it's how you learn
"stuff". Good kids.
