OT-- Sentry Home Safe

I bought a used Sentry Safe model-CSW3813. I bought mainly because it says made in USA.
Safe worked fine for about a year and now it [b:fc53c828bc]accepts code but won't unlock.
[/b:fc53c828bc]I have the safe open now, FINALLY! but I am trying to program a new Master code.
I give up on trying to set a new code and it will no longer unlock with Factory code.
I have contacted Sentry and all they know is what is printed in the manual! NO HELP at all.
Three sets of new batteries were tried.
I might add that ALL electronic parts are MADE IN CHINA.

I have a 30 + year old Sentry fire proof safe and have had no problems with it but it has the dial locking system on it. I will not buy a safe with an electronic locking system. I like the dial locking system with key that locks dial.

I had a dial type Sentry. Dial broke off in my hand. Fortunately, it was open at the time. The company replaced with a electronic one, under extended warranty. Have not had any trouble with new one. Have you any idea how badly UPS can damage a safe the size of a bale of hay? They ended up having to replace it with another. Very badly damaged.

I would think they should be able to sell you the electric lock, or they may want you to go to a distributor.

If there is a lock and safe shop near you they can probably order what you need and guide you through replacing it.

I have had a number of dial safes with dial locking system with no problems. Some of dials are designed to break if tampering with or trying to break into safe. Don't like electronic because they can be pulled off and easier to get into or tamper with.

I was looking at safes in the John Deere dealership, don't remember the brand name, and asked the partsman what you did when the fancy combination lock wouldn't work. He said the lock came right off and You stick a supplied key in a hole behind it.

UPDATE----Well, I finally got the safe to unlock by hitting handle with my fist.
Now I won't lock at all!
Apparently if you can get the keyed pin to retract, it can be opened by striking leaver down.
Now I can use the safe with just the locking pin until I can get another lock box at my bank.
Then I can take to scrap yard and sell for a few dollars.
I guess I found out Sentry Safe Quality the hard way!

I don't know why we need electronic locks. What's the matter with the mechanical locks that have
been in use for years? We are being fed "new and better" that isn't.

The one locksmith I know will not own an electronic lock, he says they are all bad. and will quit, it is just a matter of time.(brother)

Just found out, from a security site, that these are FIRE SAFES---to a degree, with very little security against break-in!
After finally removing the back of the door to get to locking mechanisms, I can see why!
Wish I had known that before wasting my money. Just glad I didn't buy a new one!
