IH 300u running bad

Need some advice. My IH 300u has been running bad lately when it gets warm. Things I have done to help correct this issue are checked the valves for proper setting, rebuild my carburetor, checked the breaker point for proper clearance. The cylinders are running just above 90psi each. Does anyone know why this tractor runs worse when it gets warmer? Could it be a carburetor adjustment? could it have anything to do with the governor? Appreciate any help anyone could give. Thanks you

Could be ignition coil? Could be battery? Could be poor ground cable/wire? Lots of places to check.

Before you go throwing more money at it, the next time you use it, and after its warmed up and starts messing up, shut it off, pour cold water over the coil, wait a few minutes and start it back up, if it runs good again, replace the coil.

You need to do some trouble shooting 101. Run it and when it starts to mess you stop and check spark. It needs to eb a blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap at the coil wire and at all 4 plug wires. If you have good spark then pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas for at least 3 minutes and in that time it should fill a pint jar or more.

Can you explain the symptoms?

Loss of power, misfire?

Smoke? Color?

Backfire exhaust, intake?

If you suspect carb or fuel problems, try a partial choke. If it runs better, it's lean. Runs worse it's not fuel problem, or already too rich.

Check the distributor shaft for side play. It should be minimal, otherwise the points will not stay set. Electronic ignition is a real problem solver, especially if the distributor is a little loose. The quality of todays points and condenser is less than perfect!

You could also have a boat load of crap in the bottom of the tank. Follow the advice about the gas flow first. You may need to unscrew the bowl assembly to get that crap out. First do the flow test. Had a coil go belly up on my 300U. Did you change it or is it still 6 volt? You have several tips on here you need to follow up on first. Get back to us.

I second (or third) the coil as an issue. I will also mention that a loose or cracked intake manifold will pll away when warm and cause a vacuum leak. Use a propane torch with the tip removed so pure propane comes out. With the tractor outside and running poorly, open the valve a little and move it around the manifold to head area. if the engine smooths out, or changes speed, suspect the manifold. Jim

Super rare for a condenser to just go bad out of no where. Shoot I have tractors that have the same condensers that they had in them 10-15 years ago and they have no problems

the only thing I think I can add that might help is it begins to run bad when warm and under load. running warm and not under a load it just misses occasionally. seen black smoke before redoing the carb. before I rebuilt the carb I had to adjust choke to get it to run a little better. after redoing the carb adjusting the choke didn't seem to affect it unless I completely close it.
