I think its a D-11, Cat's biggest. Friend ran one in a coal mine, pushing overburden. He said its the laziest machine he'd ever run- everything was just a one finger control- no more exercise than a video game. Seat was like an easy chair. He said the only thing missing was a TV.

I saw a large tracked machine today and wish I'd had a camera. It had just been unloaded along a highway, remote area, highway closed to one lane. The machine was painted white, no markings, was box shaped, no boom or other obvious use. It had a large cab high enough to stand in the length of the tracks with smaller windows with bars over the windows. It kind of looked like an oversized extra heavy duty snow cat on steel treads. A picture would equal 1,000 words but does anyone have an idea what this was?

It almost sounds like an asphalt grinder that's used to remove a layer of road surface tin preparation to put down new asphalt.

There are quite a few different varieties, but they are often box shaped, but many/most will have some sort of conveyor coming out the front or back to load the debris onto a truck.
