Anyone got one of these I can buy?

This is the cast iron gear from my M&W gravity wagon door. I can't seem to find the exact thing to fit that rack anywhere. Does anyone have some on a shelf I could buy off of them?

Just thinking out loud, could it be the same as the gear on some other gravity wagon door? Killbros has a gear with teeth that are more rounded so that won't work. My neighbor found a conversion rack and pinion for his killbros wagons. I'll have to run over there sometime today to have a peek.

Could you use a standard roller chain sprocket then attach or weld on a section of matching chain to serve as a rack?

I was thinking and i have a Massey Harris spreader out back that is gravity feed. Now it is old like 1930 s but I have all the gears on it still. These numbers I see on you casting is that the part number? (5W-041) I will go out there and look at my old spreader to see if it might work. Could you give use a picture of the chain that drive on it that might help.

weld a #50 roller chain on the upright and use a 12 tooth sprocket instead of the gear you have -- might need to move a thing or two but it will work better -- good luck! Roy

Do you have a friend with a lathe and milling machine and some form of indexing? For a rough slow speed application the gear teeth don't have to be perfect. I saw an article about making a similar gear one time. It was done with endmills, tapered endmills, countersink used as endmill, etc. to approximate the tooth shape. I think it was for an old winch or some such non critical application and worked perfectly. It would be an interesting project for someone with the tooling.

The local steel yard/fab shop has a computer controlled water jet that could duplicate that. Maybe there's one close to you. 8)
