Ice cream is good, if it's good ice cream.

I've never understood why vanilla is considered plain jane, good vanilla ice cream is really good.

I don't know that I've ever eaten a bad dish of ice cream or if I have I don't remember it. I can't eat chocolate and all dairy has to be lactose free anymore so I have limited choices. Right now all I can find in lactose free is Breyers vanilla and it happens to be the best vanilla I've eaten, but it's expensive.

I like plain vanilla, but my wife likes that chocolate chip/mint stuff....
Store bought ice cream makes her sick, so we make our own. Mostly chocolate, though - we both like that!

I can remember when we and several relatives or neighbors used to get together and make homemade ice cream!!!! Everyone took turns cranking!!! Course almost everyone still milked cows and separated so had FRESH CREAM, now that was real ICE CREAM!!! I still have the old ice cream maker and in pretty good shape!!!!

Yup!
Vanilla and Root Beer.
Or
Chocolate and Pepsi Floats.
Tom

YYEESS With a dozen eggs and cooked just so it was beginning to gel Watkins Vanella. Then ICE SALT ICE SALT (keep the hole clear of plugging Jim) If you didn't crank you didn't enjoy. Jim

My father-in-law told me long ago that when you get to be my age 60+ buy the good ice cream. If youre going to eat it and get fat you might as well enjoy it. The bucket ice creams IMHO are for kids. Also I make my own ice creams sometimes with one of these.......

It's OK,but if I eat it at night,it gives me an ice cream hangover. Chocolate doesn't seem to do it if I eat it in moderation. Darned shame too, because there's literally nothing in the world better than vanilla ice cream with Hershey's syrup.

What is wrong with variety ? Our local family owned manufacture "Chapmans" makes a real home made style ice cream etc. They carry the main staples and rotate through a few dozen semi exotic flavours.

My favorite ice cream is Bryer's Vanilla with semi-sweet chocolate morsels. But have to admit Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia is a good 'fancy' ice cream. One day they'll figure out to fill a container of ice cream half full like they do with potato chips.

I will come forward and admit the same thing. And it has to be "good" ice cream. Schwans is what we get. Even theirs isn't as rich as it used to be but close. When I go to the ole tractor events in summer, I can't wait to get the home made stuff. Can you imagine asking the home made people if they have strawberry? or butter pecan? Sometimes I'll put a little maple syrup on my vanilla if I want a change but that's it. Nothing wrong with variety but to me just means you are bored with ice cream so why not save yur money. Same with "diet" ice cream. What an oxymoron that is. So you are not alone. I don't butter up my burgers with all the junk either. Maybe a little catchup/salt if anything. I happen to like the taste of venison/beef. If I want all the other crap , I'll order a salad. I do love everything on my pizza...but that's why you order a pizza...that's what they are. Never figured out why people squeeze a bunch of lemon juice on a perfectly deep fried piece of walley or whitefish either. If ya don't like the taste of good fish then save yur money. Just a product of upbringing I guess. Simple honest life is good enough for me.

when we used to have a cow share and get raw milk we would make real Ice Cream. It was good! Of course I wasn't as real as yours because we used an electric ice cream maker.

OH yes this stuff is good. I don't know if it is still made but Starbucks made several Coffee ice creams that were in the super market. Not only was it super tasty there was enough cafeen in it to blow your spark plugs out.

Vanilla Bean ice cream. I like that pure, clean, white white ice cream.

None of that Golden Vanilla or that stuff.

My mama had a recipe for home made Peach ice cream that was out of this world, but she took it with her when she passed.

My wife has a same problem, so I bought her a little of lactose pills. One pill before the ice cream or milk and all is OK.

We walked into sole ordinary pizza joints where the locals ate in Italy. Different pizza than here. Rather tasty too.
I can't understand slathering much of anything on quality fish. Of course if it's Captain Hindgrinder fish sticks pressed of from flaked mystery fish. Could make a case for covering the stuff up .

(quoted from post at 12:09:25 03/14/16) "Chapmans " is good but, have you ever tried "Kawartha Dairy " ice cream from
Bobcaygeon. Their ice cream is the best , bar none !

There is a family dairy along highway 2 in Bowmanville or somewhere along there . They have a model train on tracks that circles the store above children's reach. Tap a red emergency stop button on the wall and the train runs for half a minute.
Quality dairy products from there too.
Stoney Creek ain't bad . Iirc they stepped up production and produced Chapman's product for several months after the Chapman building burned in Markdale .

I like vanilla just fine when adding fruit. Grapes, black or strawberries, peaches, whatever. If I've got fruit and vanilla ice cream, I'm doing pretty good I figure. Fruit gets kind of frozen, ice cream melts to coat it like cold soup. That's my favorite, but I'm constantly trying out the red topped Hudsonville cartons to see what's new or special. Vanilla ice cream goes pretty good over hot pie or crisp too.

In a bowl, on pie or with cake, vanilla is good. In a cone, I like a lot of flavors better than vanilla. I don't et much but can't go by the Tillamook cheese factory, cheese curds and Black cherry ice cream....James

My great niece asked me what was my favorite flavor of ice cream. I told her the cold kind. Vanilla is hard to beat and in the cheaper brands, it's the only flavor. I like all flavors in the better brands. If your ever in Arkansas be sure to try some Yarnell's Ozark Black Walnut ice cream. That's by far my favorite.

My preference is vanilla frozen custard. In Milwaukee it is Kopps frozen vanilla custard and here in mid Michigan and for about half of the U.S., Culvers frozen vanilla custard is excellent.

Has anyone had snow ice cream? It's pretty good.8c snow 1 1/2 c cream or milk 1/2 c sugar plus vanilla.

When I grew up in Manitoba.we had "Blue Boy" ice cream from Silverwood Dairies.Too poor to buy a lot.Once in awhile it came t0o us,parents tried hard.

Lutefisk, O Lutefisk

Lutefisk, O Lutefisk, how fragrant your aroma,
Lutefisk, O Lutefisk, you put me in a coma.
You smell so strong, you look like glue,
You taste just like an overshoe,
But lutefisk, come Saturday,
I tink I eat you anyvay

Lutefisk, O lutefisk, I put you in the doorvay.
I wanted you to ripen up just like they do in Norvay.
A dog came by and sprinkled you.
I hit him with my overshoe.
O lutefisk, now I suppose
I'll eat you while I hold my nose.

Lutefisk, O lutefisk, how well I do remember.
On Christmas Eve how we'd receive our big treat of December.
It wasn't turkey or fried ham.
It wasn't even pickled Spam.
My mother knew there was no risk
In serving buttered lutefisk.

Lutefisk, O lutefisk, now everyone discovers
That lutefisk and lefse make Norvegians better lovers.
Now all the world can have a ball.
You're better than that Geritol.
O lutefisk, with brennevin [Norwegian brandy]
You make me feel like Errol Flynn.

Lutefisk, O lutefisk, you have a special flavor.
Lutefisk, O lutefisk, all good Norvegians savor.
That slimy slab we know so well
Identified by ghastly smell.
Lutefisk, O lutefisk,
Our loyalty won't waver.

Lutefisk eaters thrive on quotes and jokes from skeptics of lutefisk comparing it to everything from rat poison (which has a hint of truth to it, because of the traces of nonstandard amino acid lysinoalanine found in lutefisk due to the reaction with lye) to weapons of mass destruction. A few examples are:

Quote from Garrison Keillor's book Lake Wobegon Days:
Every Advent we entered the purgatory of lutefisk, a repulsive gelatinous fishlike dish that tasted of soap and gave off an odor that would gag a goat. We did this in honor of Norwegian ancestors, much as if survivors of a famine might celebrate their deliverance by feasting on elm bark. I always felt the cold creeps as Advent approached, knowing that this dread delicacy would be put before me and I'd be told, "Just have a little." Eating a little was like vomiting a little, just as bad as a lot.

Quote from Garrison Keillor's book Pontoon:
Lutefisk is cod that has been dried in a lye solution. It looks like the desiccated cadavers of squirrels run over by trucks, but after it is soaked and reconstituted and the lye is washed out and it's cooked, it looks more fish-related, though with lutefisk, the window of success is small. It can be tasty, but the statistics aren’t on your side. It is the hereditary delicacy of Swedes and Norwegians who serve it around the holidays, in memory of their ancestors, who ate it because they were poor. Most lutefisk is not edible by normal people. It is reminiscent of the afterbirth of a dog or the world's largest chunk of phlegm.

yep, vanilla
maybe even with some milk poured in the bowl too...when I need a change...lol.

Grandson comes over, I throw a smashed up chocolate chip cookie or some M&M's in his...everybody happy.

ice cream gets a bad rep, but eaten within reason...it's muscle in a bowl.
