On my 2001 Chevy silverado with the duramax in it there is an odd odor when your in the back seat it is extended cab we took the truck to get a mower and it was making my mom feel kinda sick is it possible an exhaust leak would cause this? Its got some aftermarket exhaust on it I bought it that way thanks

Yes and yes. After market can be an issue if its leaking before the point it ends. Any leaks can be drawn into the cab. In addition, if the after market system exits in a non approved location, or was changed from original design it is suspect. Getting it checked for leaks can be easy if it is a tall truck, have a friend use a rubber ball to plug the exhaust till the engine slows down. then leaking at the ball enough to keep it running. use a piece of paper and follow the tubing and muffler and joints holding the paper 1/2 inch from contact. You will easily detect leaks this way. Jim

DO not let anyone ride in the back until you find out for sure if you do or don't have an exhaust leak!!!!! The fumes can be deadly in the enclosed cab. I know a fellow that died sleeping with his diesel pickup running in front of the sale barn while waiting for them to open.

Nick,
I have seen the downpipe from the turbo cracked also. That would put the fumes right at the front of the cab. From there they could easily get pulled into the cab.

I would definitely check. You can poke around through the passenger wheel wheel, have to remove the liner. Or looking up from the passenger side underneath.

Thanks I'll get it checked out the exhaust comes out at the factory spot still. Its my daily driver right now and it doesn't bother me and I never noticed anything till then
