The maples have about stopped running and sap is turning yellow. We have had record shattering warm weather this week and no overnight feeezes to perpetuate sap flow. Last night we had rain and 50 degree temps. We had drizzle all day today with mid 50s. The last of the frost went out of the ground last night. 10 day weather report says maybe we will get an overnight freeze tomarrow night and posibly promote one more run. We have made only a third of the syrup we need for our sales obligations. We will probably start takeing down the buckets and washing them all, next week.
The third pic. is my view of the screen in my tractor cabs rear cam. It saves a lot of neck strain.

Well dang thats not good. Its warm here in North Carolina. Actually it was 81 today. and going to be in the 70s for the next week. I guess Spring is here

Yes, crummy season, it was 75* here yesterday and 80* In Albany my dad saw on the news. Now we have a muddy mess.

Well - good thing my wife already bought what she needs for the year! She LOVES real Maple syrup (especially Grade "B")! I - on the other hand - would rather have the "junk" they sell at the grocery store - real stuff about kills me because it is SOOOOOO sweet!

Don't know if you get our weather a few days later, but after an above normally warm weekend this weekend, the temps. are to fall below normal next week. Calling for upper 60s this weekend and starting Tuesday in the 30s daytime. I'm in E SD. Or is it getting too late in the season anyway?

Last year I tapped the trees on Mar. 9 and pulled the taps on April 4. This year I tapped on Feb. 17 and will pull the taps tomorrow. I tapped more trees this year and yet I have only a third the syrup as last year. Not only a short run but the sugar content was low in the sap I did have.

My Dad use to say, "next year is another year, if not, we won't need it".

Looks like your gonna have enough wood then. Weather sure can upset things can't it. Great pictures as always.

We've gotten 7 gallons so far this year off our 40 taps and it looks like we may get at least one more run on Saturday. Last year we had 9-1/2 gallons and that wasn't a great year. I figure anything over 1 quart per tap average for the year is good, but we haven't had that the last few years. I'm sorry to hear of your situation, I hope next year will be better.

Steve, I have been collecting sap out of my silver maples, It really ran today, boiled some down-maybe a little too much, after I poured the thinner stuff out you could scrape some out of the bottom of the pan, it was thick like caramel and it's really sweet. Hoping it doesn't get too thick as I want to try some on pancakes. It is supposed to have a lot of good qualities that sugar doesn't have.

We may be in for a short season here in WI, too. My cousin just put the taps out last weekend, and we've collected twice. It should run today, as it froze last night.
