OT - Diamond Question

Slow night tonight, so... The post down below asked where do all the diamonds go? Lots of answers. Nobody mentioned taking them to your grave.
I've always wondered about this so now is as good a time as any to ask. How many people do you know of who wore their wedding rings to the grave vs having them removed and passed down to family members? I've viewed the body in the casket at quite a few funerals and for the life of me, I don't remember noticing if they are wearing their wedding rings or not before the lid was shut. Or, what do you plan to do when your time comes and have you made your wishes known? Can't take your tractor with you so what about the wedding rings?

Take the ring off my finger and gold out of my mouth. Sounds a bit morbid but I won't need them anymore. Pass the ring to a grandchild?? and sell the gold or fashion it into jewelry (tractor collar pin?). The old saying "you can't take it with you" should be why would you want to? jmho gobble

I know folks that have been buried with their rings, and I know folks that haven't. I have an aunt that when she found out someone was being buried with her rings, she said to the family "Aren't you worried about grave robbers?" I found that to be a very strange question.

My mom and dad were married for 50 years and dad had moms rings buried with her. He said he gave to her and it was going to the grave with her.

I do maintenance work including opening and closing graves for burial on a small cemetery. On one occasion, the funeral director re-appeared at the burial site, just before the casket was buried, to open the casket and place the woman's rings on her finger. He had removed them as a matter of common practice, but the family requested they be re-placed on her finger. On another occasion the same funeral director arrived at the burial site too late to retrieve a pair of earrings which the family wanted to give to a grandchild. He said "I'll have to BS my way out of this one!"

Maybe not. They have caught guys around here rubbing graves. Mostly funeral employees or graveyard guys. When we buried my nephew, they buried some of his toys with, waiting until after the services, with family watching.

I like that song that goes "have you ever seen a hearse with a trailer hitch" You can't take it with you.

Around here it is almost impossible for them to rob a grave because for over the last 30 years the casket has to be put in a cement vault.
