I am trying to get into daughters 04 ford expedition. The only key is locked inside. It has a code on the door, but the battery must be dead. Is there a way I can open the hood to get the battery charged ? Stan

stan, its not easy to get the hood open, you will prolly need to drop the bumper and grille to get to the hood latch, and then there is no gaurantte you will get all the bolts loose. we use a steck easy wedge lockout kit here at the shop. it s a plastic wedge, air bag and rod to release the door latch. here is a link

Go to Ford with the vin and ID proof and get a new key cut for the door. I used to have to do it all the time with GM's. I think the computer would go back into the 1990's and really old stuff if it was from our dealership we had notebooks full of that info on cars we sold.

i was thinking about that but if it has the starter solenoid up on the fender, the starter would not have a direct battery connection. if it had a 6 or 7 pin trailer connection on the back, you may get some power via the 12v supply in the trailer plug. they sure dont make it easy.

If the key is left in the ignition of our 2009 Camry, the doors will not lock. Suits me.

Had to call a locksmith ($50) awhile back to get into one of my rigs - he didn't have any luck with a slimjim so he got out something similar to what you're talking about; I'd never seen one done that way but it sure worked good! :) The hardest part was snagging the door lock after he got the wire inside (he didn't have the door lock-knob lifter shown on the link OR the rod for the power door-lock switch - but the wedge and bag worked good with no lasting evidence of the event except for my bruised ego! 8)

Does it have a lock button inside the door at the top rear or on the side above the arm rest. Get your fingers in where the door at the top rear closes against the roof. Find your plastic splitting wedge or a wood door shim or two. Pull the door out and shim it out far enough to stick your tool of choice in, 3/16 rod, stiff wire, yard stick with a short nail in the end. Have a helper give directions from the other window.. like Red Green says, any tool can be the right tool.

Had a similar problem a few years back. Wife locked keys in truck. I messed with it a bit then the light bulb glowed (faintly) phoned my local glass guys and asked what a new vent window cost - seemed reasonable so I smoked the vent window. Just as I opened the door my bride came out with the spare keys (that she had misplaced). Made her pay for the window. ;^)

I opened my Explorer hood by unscrewing the hood latch mounting screws by going through the gap between the grill and the hood with a 1/4 driveextension with a 1/4 inch socket. There are two screws. Worked for me, but don't know if it will work for you. Best of luck

I broke the rear hatch glass on mine(99 expedition) as it seemed to be easiest to replace , it was too and I think 25 bucks from local pull-a part. wife left keys in with lights on and we had just came out of Norwalk dragstrip no officals would help and it was getting late sooo the glass went!

I was getting cars ready for an auction once, had 6 to sell, before the afternoon was over I locked ALL the keys in the trunk of one of them. And of course because we were getting ready to take them to the auction all the spares were also in the box locked in the trunk. I called a locksmith and he laughed and came out and unlocked the car for me. Went to get in the lead car I hit the brakes and blew a seal on the rear caliper, so that one got towed to the shop and we drove it out to the auction site the next day. It's embarrassing to lock your keys in the car it's really embarrassing to lock 8 sets of keys in your car

Years ago a rookie cop who worked for me locked his key in the car. He had been told to get a spare cut but had failed to do so. All cars of that model year were identically keyed so there were about 40 other cars running around and any of the other officers could have opened his car for him, but instead of using his portable radio to call a beat buddy to help him he used the radio to break the window. He did not make it much longer after that.

A couple months ago, my daughter locked her keys in her 2003 pontiac grand prix. her husband was at work across portland, and I was 1/2 mile away. She called me. I went over there, knowing I didn't have any tricks up my sleeve. As I walked up to the car, I grabbed the keys for my 69 gmc pickup (single sided key) thinking that the grand prix also used single sided keys. I stuck the key in and unlocked the door. reached in and grabbed the double sided key out of the ignition switch. It shouldn't have worked, but it did.
I always try every key I have if I don't have a better option.
