My son bought his first truck,an 07 f-150 4.6 v-8 with 278000 milesThe mechanic was changing a couple of things on it and says that the fuel pump only has 15 pounds of pressure and that it needs to be changed how much pressure does a new fuel pump have?Yes that's a lot of miles but you sure can't tell by the overall condition until you look at the odometer!

I'm not sure but most of this fuel injected stuff needs at least 35 psi ?
Times sure have changed and not really for the better. Parts are so expensive for these modern vehicles and then even a decent shade tree mechanic struggles to repair them. The days of cheap parts and easy to work on are LONG gone. I'd sure not like to have to relied on something with almost 300K on it. I still have a 1981 F350 and sure it needs some stuff done. Last few years the carb. needed rebuilt. Kit was only like $30.00 and I could easily get the carb. off and work on it at my work bench.Fuel pump was suspect too do to an extended crank after sitting. Fuel pump was only like another $ 30.00 ? 2 bolts and EASY to get at ! Sure fuel injection is nice as long as it works. But when it breaks it breaks the bank too. I still like good ole carburetor.

There is a part back by the spare tire called the fuel pump driver module, they get corroded and fail often here in Minnesota from road salt.

If you Google that question you will get all kinds of good info. I just had to replace the fuel pump driver module on my wife's 07 f150, it would not start after being washed. Thought it was the fuel pump but after Goggling for info found it was not the pump. Jim

It's for local use only and he paid just 1900 for it.runs good with plenty of power, smooth shifting and is really still pretty tight.the price gives him some wiggle room on repairs and he can't loose a bunch if it dies.I rather he goes this route then new or should I say way more expensive!

Yes Mike m that's why I can afford a newer one myself but choose to drive a 95 Chevy with the throttle body 350.

Low fuel level in the tank is what kills fuel pumps. The pump needs fuel for cooling. Never let a tank get below half full

Yep - The newest truck around here is a mint '97 Dodge Dakota with 118k, auto, a/c, pw, 4x4, 318, etc. When I got it it was pretty gutless as it was running way too lean. A StreetMax muffler gave it BIG ca_hones but cost a mile per gallon (went from 17 to 16 mixed driving) BUT I didn't buy it for mileage! 8) THAT is about as 'new' a vehicle as I want and even then it's way too complicated in some ways. :)

Try a different tester, 13 to 15 pounds of pressure is for older throttle bodies, newer stuff would be more like 40 to 65 lbs. on Gm anyway.
