Who needs a cat?

I have one outside cat. She is put in at night. That's when the mice are active. I would set traps, and if it wasn't a good kill the mouse would run off with the trap. I made this mouse hotel. They check in, but don't check out. I never had a full house. The most I trapped in one night was 6. Stan

That looks like a neat setup, only I hope that is not lead paint on the lid, would be bad for the mouseys health! LOL

Hi I bet you don't catch the other 2 as they are busy making replacements l.o.l, Do you bait with peanut butter, the mice round here love it. English mice used to eat cheese. my old boss was from england and found out Canadian mice wouldn't eat cheese.I told him peanut butter and he got a full trap until he caught them all. At the start he thought I was joking!
I think I'd change your cats work shift, It's kinda like having a dog and barking yourself when somebody calls in the yard. I kinda kicked cat butt here one day when I fed the shop cats ,I put my hand in their open feed bag one morning with the pot and the mouse was sitting there, in the full pot when I pulled the food out the bag!.
I also know mine do hunt alot in the spring/ summer from gopher and bird parts I find, they catch mice outside and bring them home alive to play with sometimes then loose the stupid things in the shop to.It's Kinda counter productive I guess. But I like cats and Dogs, so kinda at a disadvantage all round I guess. my last 2 dogs caught more mice when they were alive than the cats did at the time, the cats sat watching the dog mouse one day! .
Regards Robert

My mice can trip a Victor trap then eat the bait. I have my best success with the Intruder trap. I use peanut butter but the mice sometimes chew up the plastic trap.

I have heard eating peanut butter causes brain damage. Now we have proof. Looks like with that many at one time, your mice already have brain damage.

I have 2 cats. One is a good mouser and the other one likes to catch the critters (normally gophers) and then brings them in the house and sets them free.

I doubt the cat will work the night shift anymore. It will be hard for the cat to venture out into the night with cotes behind ever bush looking for a meal. Besides it's hard leaving a heated bed, and a heater in the tack room. Stan

We have a walk-out basement and get mice. The wife sets traps when she finds droppings. We used to have a cat. One morning I was leaving for work and there was a mouse in a trap at the bottom of the stairs. Like "Look what I did."

You might like to try my bait strategy. I use a large raisin smooshed (a technical term) into the bait 'hook'. Have gotten as many as 4 per raisin - think of the cost saving ! ;^)
