Nice pictures - thanks for taking the time to post.

Question regarding the wagon pulled behind the corn picker: I have always liked this style of wagon. What are they called, what are the benefits of this type, when were they in popular use...etc.

My memory began with the use of a hay rack wagon with grain sides for picking corn. Dad bought a gravity box type wagon when he bought a mounted one row picker, in the early 1960's.

That type of wagon was a "flare box" which allowed the grain harvested to flow off the sides to the tail gate.

Flair box and they were never popular in this area, Ohio and Indiana, hay and grain. You could not use them for hay and you could not shovel ear corn out of them into a crib. So usueless in this area. Have a wood box that was on a gear I bought and it was made in Minesota so I suppose they were used up in that are. Just a straight side box you could put what was called a shovel board on back instead of the regular endgate so you could shovel the corn into the crib. But as flat beds with tight floors and sideboards became avaible fro hay as well as grain most of the box beds were left to rot. Then when elevators started comming around to fill the cribs the hopper bed became popular as it was easier to unload.

Wish I knew where ya are..!!
I'd probably be there with a few of mine..!!!
Bet the sounds were Pretty, with them In-&-out of Sync..I loved that..!!!
The 620 looks like it walks right along with that plow..

Used to use the flair box wagons for corn and beans, no problems with shoveling a 45 degree uptilted from front wagon box, gravity did most of the work. Wagon wheel lift or later hydrualic ram lift under the box, grain flow out back in easy enough to handle narrow stream to the hopper on grain elevator that got the grain up 20 to 50 foot before dropping it down sloped snout to grain bins in cribs. About only shoveling was a very end of unloading of flair box and the picking up of the spillage. Different way of doing things in central Iowa after the tractors arrived on farm, elevators good for getting hay bales into barn loft also. Mild Teasing Alert! RN

Great Pictures! Are these old pic's or is this how you are farming? Like the last one with what looks like a R or 80. Spent a lot of time in the field on a R. My Dad retired in the fall of 1973, he had two R's. I started both of them at our auction sale, September 28th 1973... the last time I started anything with a pony motor. Can still do it in my mind. Love the sound of the pony motor when engaging the diesel. Need any help for a couple of days?

Used these two old tractors to plant corn this weekend. The disc is the newest piece of equipment and it is 15-20 yrs old.
