case crawler identification

Hello everyone one. I have an old case dozer. Or I see also called a crawler. I'm trying to figure out what model an year it is. I can't find any idenifation on it. All I have is ,is a number on the block. 199r08012.
Can someone point me in a direction. Looks like I'm going to have to pull motor. So I will need parts.
I have never see this before. But it all started I thought I had a bad starter or ground. Hard turn over. Or motor would turn at all. Had starter rebuilt. Still he same thing. So I pulled all plugs out. Started to move slow. After a 2 hrs sicken with it. Trying different batteries. If started turn over good. Soi tried to get it to run. But non of the exhaust was coming from to exhaust. It came from the breater. Explan that.?
Well here is a pic of my dozer

Have you pulled the valve cover and checked for stuck valves? They usually stick open, but can stick closed and bend pushrods.

You have the batteries hooked up backwards. You are turning the motor the wrong way. Reverse you batteries.

It sounds as though your exhaust is plugged. when you removed your plugs you gave a place for your compression to go. Almost impossible to turn an engine over if the compression has no where to go. put a photo on here and some one will identify it. I do think I would pull the exhaust manifold if it were mine. just my 3 cents worth.

Matt:

I'm not familiar with Case equipment, but . . .
Generally, if an engine "breathes" through the Exhaust stack and sends the Exhaust out through the Air Filters then it is running BACKWARDS.
Someone may have installed the wrong starter - Clockwise vs Counter-Clockwise; or possibly mounted it on the wrong side of the engine, as some engines have Starter mounting ports on BOTH sides of the engine with the unused port covered with a cover-plate.

it could be posible. but. when i tried putting negative to steel or hook up back ward. my fuel pump dont turn on. so that is why i thought it was hooked up correct. which way should motor spin if im looking at it. ? it was goin clock wise if i was ln front of it.

it wasmt breathing through the intake. it was coming out of the oil fill. hole. an still sucking through the intake. nothing from exhasut/

Wondering what year this is. An model

No, that is wrong. Starter motors are Series-wound and rotation will be the same regardless of polarity.
UNLESS you have a starter with permanent magnets for the field (not very likely).
And if the starter was truly turning backwards, the overrunning clutch in the starter drive would just slip.

Can't really see a size comparison from picture, but appears to be possibly a 310 Case. If so would be a 148CI case engine with approx. 42 HP. Year would be around 1960-62

Thanks john. That's what I was figuring.
But when I had the starter rebuilt. Guy
said start might had been from late 50s.
So then I wasn't sure.
