Scrap Prices

I am in Western KS. today I heard that scrap steel is brining a big price, $300 a ton in Central MO, Is this true ? or just someone talking at an auction?

Got two scrap yards close to me. One is at $65 a ton .The other is $110 a ton. These two yards are only 15 miles apart. Go figure that one out.

The local scrap yard shut down not long ago due to the price being so low. Last I heard here in MO we where lucky if it sold for $75 a ton and that is figuring on the high side

Mixed iron is at $50 a ton in east central IN. Has been the same for a couple months, up from $35 in December.

Sound like it is going up,we were 30.00 a ton mixed and went up two weeks a go to 45.00 just north of Hannibal MO

We have a local yard with a shredder, trucks, railroad close by. They pay $70 to everyone but bigger dealers, who can get $100 or a little better. What I found to be interesting is prices inside China. If I understood the last chart it was near $1000 ton.

All you need to do is hire a container and ship it over there. I have a friend that exports to China.

Is it possible the lower price yard is a smaller place and does not have exporting capabilities? And that the cheaper yard is selling to the higher priced yard that can ship large quanities to export?

If that price is delivered then it makes sense. The freight to get it there adds hundreds in overhead. Those ships don't run cheaply!
