Not what it's cracked up to be.

I put a JD lawn mower seat on my backhoe last year. Very comfortable seat. This winter the cold caused it crack when I sat on it. Please no jokes about being fat. Looking for a way to keep it from cracking more. Saw an ad on TV about gorilla tape. What would you use?

That's a problem with all those seats it seems.
Dad had found some yellow duck tape it help up a little while.

Gorilla tape is better than ordinary duct tape by a factor of 10 at least.

It'll patch the existing cracks, but I've never found anything that will prevent them. Had the same problem on my old 750 JD, I went through half a dozen seats in the 28 years I owned it. Only thing I found was some aftermarket covers with integrated foam that would clip onto the original pan. Bought several at a surplus and salvage place for $15 each and stashed them in the garage. Still had one left when I sold the tractor.

I have a 20 year old JD garden tractor GT275, I think, seat didn't crack. Looks like the original. I've looked at buying a used gator. All the seats cracked up at the 90 degree bend.

Fawteen,
Will your seat cover work on my seat? Do you remove the old seat? So do you want to sell your seat cover? Please post a pic, I may want to buy it. Geo

First, the spare cover went with the tractor.

Second, on my tractor the cover and foam were held to the metal seat pan by a U-shaped edge trim like what's shown at the link. Just pull the trim off, take the old cover and foam off, put the new cover on, clip the trim back over the edge.

I just checked Surplus Center, they don't have any at the moment.

What's the big deal, you've got a cracked in your seat too. :) maybe superglue a boot under it?

Inject gorilla super glue into the crack, and then gorilla tape over the crack front to back. Overlap the tape 1/2" and (were it mine) put a piece of upholstery fabric on that. 3M 77 trim spray adhesive is the best. Jim

The thing is the cracks in seat doesn't line up with the crack in my seat. This seat is expensive and one year old. I just want to stop it from falling apart. Don't really care how redneck it looks. Seat is also comfortable.

Aquaseal Urethane Adhesive. Spread a bead on the crack, let it cure about 24 hrs. and have a permanent solution. Fixed the seat permanently on my NH tractor 2 years ago. Available at Cabala's, Walmart, West Marine and many other places

Never heard of Aquaseal Urethane Adhesive, but next trip to wally world I pick some up. Thanks.

I wonder if you can't take it back for free replacement. The thing should last longer then a year. People use them things in cold weather all the time with a blade or blower on their lawn tractor.
