Maple Syrup season on hold

Well, mother nature was stuborn and didn't warm up the way the weather watchers predicted. We got the one day of gathering and then things froze up. We went up to the saphouse yesterday and loaded the evaporators and fired them. There was a lot of ice in the storage tanks from Mon. overnight 16F temp, and it only went up to 34 yesterday afternoon. We could only run the evaporators for about 4 hrs., not enough to get any syrup off. The buckets in the woods were frozen solid. We got overnight freezing rain and down right nasty foggy weather today. with temp hovering at 30-32. Weather watchers are saying 52F this afternoon, but things really need to change quickly for that to happen. So far today the ice has been acculininating, not melting.
As you can see in the 3rd pic of an ice block dumped from a sap bucket, the small whips have already started to bud. May be a very short season.

Yea it is. 1975 model 990.Been one tough tractor. It is the go to-do everything utility tractor. It gets totally neglected, until I doesn't start and then it gets a little TLC.
I did do a cosmetic overhaul on it 3 years ago. It had a lot of war wounds.

Nice setup, do you have reverse osmosis? Best investment I ever made! Use a tiny fraction of the firewood I used to. I'm at about 180 gallon syrup so far this year off about 1500 taps
