Seal adhesives?

In the process of removing and replacing some seals in my Super 55 tractor. Crossshaft seals for the top trans. cover brake crosshaft seals, now what would be the better type sealing compound to use here? Permatex, 3m, silicone? Thanks there farmers.
 
Permatex ultra black is good stuff it's about all I use
it will seal about anything and unlike some of the
others it has a little forgiveness if something isn't
perfectly clean that doesn't mean don't clean the
parts but it will seal if things aren't perfect

Just now getting back to my fellow farmers on the type of sealer to use and it looks like Permatex ultra black is the unanimouse decision. Now does it come in a tube with silicone in it?

I prefer anaerobic sealants for seals in most situations. Loctite 515 or equivalent flexible flange sealant works well. One advantage of anaerobic sealant is it will not cure in the tube, it does not cure until their is a complete absence of air. Leave a tube laying open, not a problem. A much more economical alternative due to no wasted product.
