They call this Fasting???

While it was a great day to go outside and fire up the grill I am not suppose to have red meat this time of the year.
Only meat I am suppose to eat is shellfish but I do cheat a little and eat regular fish.

So this is what I am left with to choke down for dinner.
Dang I might get use to this fasting concept with food like this.

So what you guys having for dinner?

Actually, fasting is limiting yourself to one regular meal and 2 smaller meals that total less than the regular sized meal. Not eating meat is abstaining. Whatever you choose to call it it looks good.

roasted root veggies: carrots, taters, onions and turnips. tossed in olive oil, salt, pepper and mrs. dash. glass of ice water.

Mmmmmmm! Dats gud eatin!

Because you can't eat red meat, the shrimp and crawdaddies are doctor prescribed.......right?

Enjoy it, John!

Sorry John, I didn't even think about religious reasons. My apologies.

My brother in law was on a red meat restriction by his cardiologist. Glad to know you don't have to deal with that, but if you did, it doesn't look like a problem with that beautiful platter of food!

Yes Scott

I am catholic.

We party hard in preparation for our fasting times and call it Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday
That is something most do not know. Mardi Gras is related to religion.
Then on Ash Wednesday we go into what we call Lent.
It is 40 days of fasting and other things we do.
It all ends with Easter Sunday when we can rejoice again.

neighbor Le Roy had been eating lots of fish and chicken his doctor told him he has to eat more beef cut back on the fish and chicken as he has became anemic
he has been getting b 12 shots once a week for a month then he will be getting them once a month

Get them spuds out of there! They're taking up valuable mud bug space!
I could just live on stuff like that- they beat beef all hollow, as far as I'm concerned.

But under the New Covenant we are told to eat whatever is put before us with thanksgiving. Clean and unclean was part of the old religious system. Recall the story of Peter when the lord told him to go spread the gospel to the gentiles (non-jews) and the Lord used a picture of previously unclean food to impress upon him that this was a different covenant and no food is forbidden.

There is a good eatin place in LongBeach MS. We always go there when i am down there. I like the fresh shrimp.

Except that story is not about FOOD, it is about relationships between Israelites and Gentiles.....read the entire context of the story.
The food laws were NOT changed - only the sacrifice laws ("I come not to change the Law, but to fulfill it...").
NOWHERE are we told the food Laws were changed.

So since shrimp and crawfish do not have fins and scales you do not eat them.
Does that also hold true with catfish, lobsters, and crabs for you.
And we can also assume you stay away from pigs because they are not cud chewing.
Or are you singling out shrimp and crabs because you do not like them anyway.

We try to follow all the Biblical food laws. I cannot say 100% that nothing slips through, but that would include dead pig, lobster, catfish, shellfish, crabs, etc. I never was too enthused about eating any of that stuff growing up, either (raised Lutheran). I always tell people that I used to be Atheist, but I gave it up for Lent!
