Interesting how many combines had their own engine, even when the tractor didn't lack for power.

The oldest combine I remember here was a JD 12A. It was PTO drive. We didn't have an engine on a combine until the first self propelled.
 
Isn't is something how much farm equipment has changed? Here is a pic of my dad's first self propelled picker sheller. Today we call them combines. Pic was taken around mid 50's. He had the first one around and did a lot of custom work with it. Hired people and ran it 24/7

Thanks for the pictures. Brought back lots of memories. I remember when the John Deere 55 was introduced to the public, It looked like a ' monster'. I had the misfortune of running a # 10 corn head on a 55 Deere for a few days. The corn head was not very good ,but that was all we had at the time. The combine was very good. clint
