1000 pto reducer?

Is there a reducer made to reduce a 1000 pto down to a 540 pto so you can use 540 pto equipment if so where can I get one?

Do you mean a stub shaft (cheater) or a reduction gearbox? Lots of the former at any dealer, latter would be model specific and a rare bird.

I would guess over the shaft? How's the reduction gearbox work?

There are several adapters that can mate a 1000 tractor pto to a 540 implement. If one is careful to run at about 1/2 throttle and if the pto length is right it can work out tho not ideal. Most farm supply stores have them over in the chain, hydraulic, pto, hitch pin section of the store.

For a time some companies (was Hub a popular one?) made an actual gear set that would reduce the pto speeds so you could run at full throttle and have actual 540 output. However they were so expensive they didn't sell enough and I don't think they are still being sold?

Some fertilizer spreaders and such equipment also has that type of gear reducer on them, so folks can pull the spreader with either size tractor and just pick which stub to attach the pto to. That could be handy to have coming off a salvage spreader.....

Yes, I have several. 1000 to 540. Big 1000 to 1000. Big 1000 to 540. I think I got them at local farm equipment dealers. Right when I wanted one they were hard to get because of some liability case. At least that's what I was told. But I did end up getting them. Ordered one from maybe three dealers, and they all finally showed up. One place offered two different strengths in the same size- I think it was the big 1000 to 540- the one I used to run a 540 bat wing mower with a big MFWD tractor, at half throttle. The cheaper one has a little twist in it! I was surprised that would happen with such a power reduction on the tractor.

If you REALLY want to change the speed (not simply adapt the shaft and throttle down) it can be done but it ain't cheap!

Bob. My brother is a HubCity dealer, His cost on that unit 6-8 yrs ago was $3500. HubCity doesn't even keep one in stock anymore.
