Finding a place to park (pic)

Ran across this image and was wondering if any of the older folks on her ever saw something like it. I have seen smaller modern versions but this thing is several stories tall. I wonder what type of power they used to move it. Even as light as the older cars are that is a lot of weight.

Real estate agents probably didn't like it because it required less ground space. Original mechanisms were probably slow and noisy. I believe that I've seen pics of more modern lifts but they put them inside a building in later ones and not stack them as high as that one.

Good thing cara nowdays have automatic everything. Can you imagine what a mess that would be with all the stupid drivers!? If their GPS didn't tell them to stop, they'd drive off the edge. I tell ya, IDIOTS today!

Interesting way to park though...

Real common or almost the norm in Japan. Don't know that I have ever seen one more than about 6 cars high but more modern version of that set up is just about ever where there is room to put one.

Now for the $64,000. question.

If the owner of a car on one of the upper levels wants to go somewhere,

do ALL of the lower level cars have to be unloaded just to get "His" car off?

Hey Doc, It looks like it is a continuous belt type thing. Each car is on a platform that pivots. Someone said like a bucket excavator.

Go and pick something up from the dry cleaners', you will see how they work.
