put down my best friend

Today it was my turn to have to make the tough decision, and say goodbye to my best friend. Blue was a lab/dalmatian mix and over the past 16 years we have been through so much together. His legs gave out on him yesterday and this afternoon the pain started, I knew it was time.

Sorry to hear. Been there twice and getting close again. Not looking forward to it. It's the hardest thing I have ever done.

Losing a close companion, like they, are can be as devastating as losing a human loved one. Sorry for your loss!!!

I said goodbye to the mutt a couple of months ago she was the only family I really had. The cattle also are gone now so empty barn pasture and house . It's been a really tough time and some days it's hard to find any reason to go on. I don't know how people can live on welfare and not have a purpose in life. I am so thankful a couple of days after I said goodbye the vet's sent a nice card and a plaster cast of her foot.
Take care

2 Summers ago I walked out to the garage for my morning routine of bringing out my good old boy bullet, but when I unlocked the door I didn't hear his chain rattle. No dog could ever replace him. He was as old as me. So I know how ya feel.

It's so hard, but you did the best thing. I have gone through that too many times in my life. It never gets easier. We said good by to this girl a couple years ago. We sure get attached to these animals. Stan

I know how you feel. Bet everyone on this forum has shed a tear or more when they had to do the same. Condolences.

Ben

Even though you may have known, for some time, that their time was coming it doesn't make it any easier. My condolences.

That's a tough one. I feel for you. I had to do the same thing a little under a year ago. He feebly looked up at me and I pulled the trigger and walked away. Looked through tears for the rest of the day.

Looks like a good dog and good friend.
They come, they go, memories are wonderful things on cold days. I still think about our dog from when I was a boy. Always happy thoughts, appreciate them more now that she's gone.

Absolutely the best love money can buy.
Get off your butt and get another. You can not replace the one that has gone before but you can do things to heal the heart and finding a place to put that special love truly makes the loss "better".

very sorry for your loss i have had to do it several times and will have to do it several more times in the coming future never gets any easier.
i hope you find another one for i am sure theres a little fellow out there somewhere waiting for someone like you.

Damnit Rich,

Not complaining at you, but I still miss the yellow lab that had the demeanor of a cottonball. Hurt me beyond what I thought when she had to go, hope you're not feeling the same, but guessing you are.

Be upbeat, if you can, in knowing that you did what you did out of kindness. I, too, sometimes struggle with what I had to do, as opposed to what I wanted to.

That old Labrador had a heart of kindness, still haven't found a single dog that had that depth.

Sorry if I made you feel worse,

D.

Sorry I hadn't returned to the site for couple days, but I want to thank everyone for the kind words. He was a sweet hearted mutt. He was blessed with an amazingly long spoiled life.

I will get another dog at some point, I'm too much of a dog lover to not do so. When I do I will look into adopting a senior dog, and spoil the hell out of 'em.
