I'm doing some transmission shaft work on a 58 Oliver 880. I'm struggling with the snap rings on the shafts. What is the best way to remove them and reinstall ???

Not familiar with that particular tractor but I assume you have snap ring pliers, and large enough ones? They are not cheap but necessary

I worked at reinstalling a retaining ring for probably forty minutes this afternoon. I have plenty of tools for the ones with holes in them, but this was the type without holes. When I removed it I ground a cheap pair of pliers to engage the ends of the ring when I wasn't able to find the right tool. They weren't so much help with reinstalling it though.

Modified these snap on to work with some of the bigger rings inside transmissions bought them to do a trans on an 8630 John Deere 4wd I see corn well now makes a bigger set
