I have worn wolverine dura shock boots for the last
7 years or so, very happy with them. Iv been looking
at another pair, or some different options, I also
have a pair of Smith American logger boots, I can't
wear them very long anymore, it seems the high
heel bothers my feet, how many people like logger
boots? Iv seen girls wearing them now! Why are the
for loggers? Any way any good ideas for
comfortable work boots? Carolina, red wing,
chippawa ect, iv also found American made boots
called Thorogood, anybody have these?

Now that I have tractors with cabs, I like penny loafers, sport jacket, no tie, and khaki dockers when doing tillage work. Only problem is that if something needs unhitched, or something needs fixed, I have to call AAA. I like to feel pretentious.

I'm not a fan of boots that take a half hour to put on. My buddy just got a pair that lace up, steel toe, but they have a side zipper so you can get them off in about 3 seconds. I'm getting a pair, because I can only hold my breath for about 3 seconds while bending over anymore. I'm extremely chubby.

I bought a pair of Ariat 'cowboy' boots last year. Toughest pair of boots I ever worn.Still in good shape, and I'm HARD on em. Pretty comfortable, too.Just this fall I bought a Ariat work shoe. Kind of like a oil tanned tennis shoe.Ankle high.Super comfortable. Bought both pair from Murdocs .TSC carries em too.

Be careful. Carolina and Chippewa both have some models made in China. I buy the higher end Carolinas. If I can, I like to get two pairs and rotate wear. They last 3 times longer. The $500 is a bit hard to swallow, but the Chinese stuff does not fit well, does not stay weatherproof or resistant, and often fails in a couple of months. I can go through 3 or more pairs of $100 Chinese boot in a year. Carolinas can last two or more years.

I quit wearing wolverine after 15+ years, the last pair I had didn't last very long, the soles split & crumbled apart and separated from boot. I always heard red wing made a great boot so that's what I wear now. I wear mine every day m-f, all day long standing on concrete and walking through various oils and fluids, my feet never hurt at the end of the day

I wore Wolverine for a couple of years then they changed them and they didnt last very long. had Redwings they were really good boots but the price nowday is huge. I have Georgia boots only complant so far is the dang things dont stay tied. have to tie them 4 or 5 times a day. I also have the same problem as John_PA has I have to hold my breath as my mid section is in the way. LOL

Majority of the time I wear Chippawa loggers that are chip-a-tek ( same as Gortex), Thinsulate insulation, and electrical safety toe ( non steel). These boot need no breaking and if taken care of I get 4 to5 years from them and they run around $280.00. I have had Carolina and Georgia logger boots and find them very hard to break in and don't wear as good. I have worn Red Wing wellingtons but they have lost their quality. I bought a pair of Schmidt wellingtons that are lined and with the electrical safety toe. I have had them about 6 months and so far so good but time will tell how they hold up. I like the loggers because of the heels because I have had several back operations and injections and a low heeled boot gives me a back ach.

I like slip on boots, so I wear the square toe harness boots from LEHIGH, and the pair I have on now is over 6 years old. I am thinking of getting a new pair later this summer, cause the sole is getting thinner. I had a new set of heels put on last year, and probably should have had them half soled at that time, but didn't, Now I get to spend another $140, cause I was too cheap, to get the soles done.

I have worn Wolverine 8" Trapper boots for years, Well I guess they were too good, because they quit making them about 2 years ago. So I am on my last pair-- I saw a place on the net that will resole and re-eye them maybe I can get a little more out of them.

I have a new pair of Red Wings on standby, but I tried another pair of Red Wings one time and they were so heavy I gave them away.

I switched to a tennis/hiking shoe style from Nautilus and have gotten 18 months from them with no complaints. Previously wore 6 inch Ariats that last around two years or so. Mine need to be composite toe/ electrical safety/comfortable for 10-12 miles a day.

I order mine from WorkingPersonsStore.com, they are great to work with. I also share the lacing issue due to Dunlop syndrome (where your belly done lopped over your belt).

I like the Timberland logger boots but settled for 8" Wolverines that were half the price. They're Chinese, feel good but are cheap imitation leather and scuff and tear easily. Won't last. Hard to find anything decent under $200.

I found a pair of Dexter boots at the back of the closet I forgot I had and they have been very comfortable.

I'm very picky with my boots and shoes, with my work boots I've found 2 brands I like and I stick to them. They are the Timberland Pro and Wolverine Dura shocks. I'm very hard on boots and these 2 brands seem to out last all the rest I've tried.

I cant keep my shoes tied either,,,I got tired of tying them sll day,,now I have a cheap roll of electrical tape, wrap the top of the shoe a bit,They stay tied ,pull the tape off at the end of the day throw it out,,start over the next morning.Try it,see if it works for you.

I wear red wing, keep thinking I'd like to switch but can never find any thing comfortable. Red wing has lost some of it's quality in the past few years and the price is rediculas.

i wear the redwing slip on boot steel toe.never had a pair fall apart the leather wears out across the toe eventually.i get about two years out of them .

Jay,
I have settled on Red Wings. I have tried Wolverines, Carolinas and a few others. They just dont seem to fit the way the Red Wings do. I put them on at 6:30am and they dont come off until 11pm, every day.
I did have good luck with Irish Setters as well, until my feet sprouted to somewhere between a 15 and 16. Makes boot buying hard no matter what.

I have 6 pairs. My feet sweat a lot, it gives them time to try, plus digging trees they get wet and sloppy there too.

Here is a post when I asked about logger boots on here two years ago.

I wore Red Wings for years. Found a new pair of Wolverine Durashocks which are very comfortable but the soles crumbled after wearing them only a few times.

About 3 years ago, my brand name boots, $125, from Gander mountain fell apart after 3 months. Gander gave me a hard time giving me a refund, we don't refund after 30 days. I was lucky to find insulated work boots, most places were out this late in the winter. So I went to TSC and found a pair of Ranger boots with removal thinsulate insulation. They were marked down on clearance, about $45. I love them, went back to buy a second pair and they were out. I only wear these boots when is very cold or my feet will sweat and liner will be soaked my noon.

So much for expensive brand name boots, I'm going to TSC.

I've given up on finding affordable, comfortable boots. Mickey Mouse in the winter, cheap pull on rubber barn boots and $25.00 Walmart hikers for summer. The last good boots I bought I payed $175.00 for and they came apart in 3 months. The pair before that lasted even less. Why bother? Even LL Bean Mane Guide boots don't last anymore, the rubber bottoms crack and leak in 6 months.

My first real pair of boots was a pair of Carolina "Loggers". The higher heel really helps my back.

They were China made, and $120, I got 2 1/2 years out of them, and that was being worn 4-7 days a week. VERY impressed.

This time around, I wanted a little better quality, and I wanted American made, so I bought a different model. $179.99 for a pair of 16E Loggers! AWESOME boots, have been in them about 2 months now I think. Here is the link to them. Most of their stuff is American made, and they are proud of it, good prices, on GOOD boots. Probably won't last you 5 or 6 years, but, I think less than $200, for 3 years of boots is pretty darn good...

I love mine, will buy them again! Bryce

I wear logging boots in the winter and spring.
Red Wing's. It takes me a while to get use to the heel height each season. I'll slip and slide all over the place if I walk onto concrete directly from snow. I look like I'm 6'6" with the them on whack my head on coup doors etc.
If its real cold and I'm not moving a lot of logs I wear what I call snow mobile boots. They are huge and clunky but warm.
My skid steer has foot pedal controls and that can be awkward with wide high heeled boots.
The Red Wings can be resoled. I use to wear a variety of Asolo boots but I can't find them locally and my last re-soling did not work out well. I found the Asolo to be my favorite boot but I have not bought new boots in 5 years I resole every 2. My Red Wings look new but have 100's of miles on them.
When my kids leave for college or wherever they head off to. I'm thinking of hiking the High Sierra Trail for that I'll hunt down someone to resole my Asolo boots properly. I have a couple of years.

Hi, I'm on my second pair of 'Chinook'. They are Chinese but last well not too pricey. But best of all, they are comfortable. I bought them at Fred Meyer. Ed Will

Boots, now that is a problem . They are a real pain for me as i have a narrow foot and now that the boot industry has gone the way of M c Donalds i have a hard time with boots. I use to get Mason's boots as i could get widths that fit proper , now they are made in China and are junk. I bought a pair of there 989's and when they arrived they were missing the insole , so i called and they said send them back . Ok how long before you send me a new pair ????? well we are out of stock at this time and you will have to WAIT till we get the next order shipped in from over seas , maybe six months . Also the toe stitching was not done wright and was coming out when i took them out of the box . Ok fine i need boots on my feet i'll go BUY and insole and just ware them . Well half the time i am in DIRT and tyhe other time i am on concrete . Three months and the soles are toast. So now my water proof insulated boots for winter are junk. So back to looking around here for a pair of insulated water proof boots that will fit . All i can find are boots with deep lug soles as i call them mud and manure trackers , they are vary stiff to walk in and the soles have no flex to them they are big and clunky . I was looking yesterday at boots at Rural King. and i did not see anything there .And going up to the Mall is a joke as you will not find a WORK boot around here as i guess there is no need for a WORK boot in my area anymore . Out Toy Shoes and Candy does not have any insulated water proof WORK boots . And taking the time to drive down to what was once a vary good place for WORK boots down in Amish country where when you went there you needed to take a flash light with ya to see as his gas lights really did not light the place up has gone YUPPY now with a huge fancy store designed around the tourist industry with ELECTRIC lighting and a huge sales staff and prices that will knock your socks off and Cheap China made boots that you can almost find anyplace. Most guys are lucky as most guys have feet that are wide to extra wide for the few like me with a narrow foot and cold feet it is really hard to find something that will fit for all day comfort.

Red Wings style #608! soles last well and can be replced if the uppers are still good ($75). No goartex just leather light comfy. Below Zero this morning when I walked the dog down to the farm for milking with some smart wool socks and tingley over shoe rubbers feet were fine. The boots are just over $200 and the soles last about 4,000 hrs worth of dairy farming before they're shot. They do have the same style boot with goretex for more $$. The goretex ones are not as cool in the summer. MOST IMPORTANTLY - Go to a place that will properly measure your foot and get the correct width and size boot for YOUR foot! They can order EXACTLY what you need. Consider going and getting your foot measured before you need the boots incase they need to order them. Don't be afraid to put good insoles in them if you need extra support for a high arch or whatever.

I bought my first pair of Red Wings last spring, and they didnt hold up any better than boots at half the price. Plus they didnt break in for a long time. I had been buying Harley Davidson boots at Sears , but they quit carrying my style. I usually dont get a full year out of any boot, manure, oil, and wet tears them up. I am due for new ones again, so am reading the posts with interest !

No matter the Brand, once the leather gets scuffed god, SOAK them with SNO-SEAL.. Use a hair Drier to heat the inside of the boot, so the Sno-Seal goes in deep..

When thoroughly treated, let cool and wipe off the excess.. The Bees Wax in it will even shine up pretty well..

I have a pair of RedWing Boots I used on the Semi and they were Wet, then dried in the truck 100's of times and they are as good now as when I bought them..

Same for my OLD Work Shoes..one pair is still good after I bought them in i965..!

Re-treat maybe every 6 Mo to 12 Mo..if they get wet a lot of dry from a lot of dust..

SNO-SEAL is the only Brand I would use, other brands are out there but they don't have as much Bees Wax in it..

Ron..

I stick with red wings, mainly since my cousins own the local store and I don't feel like going to the next town over to Fleet (where you are on your own for shoes). The 2238 are comfortable to me, the 2280 they can stick someplace. I abuse my shoes(forget to oil, wet/dry, rarely cleaned off) and don't have much problem with red wings holding for at least 2or3 years till the leather shreds apart(usually starting at toe(kicking to much junk) and the rear ankle(continual flexing point)). Some red wings are foreign(like those 2280's I hate), so if you want Am made look at tags.

One thing to remember is to have foot sized in afternoon after standing on them all day(the weight of your body squeezes them flatter, longer, wider). Don't hope your feet stayed the same size since last time you got shoes, get them sized/fit; you'd like the fit a little more.

Those wolverine dura shocks work pretty good for me too. The leather doesn't wear out for me, the soles go first. I thought they didn't last long till my one daughter put that walking app on my phone. No wonder I'm tired at the end of day, I put a thousand and some miles on each pair before they wear out walking all over this freakin place and jobsites. Maybe they do pretty good. Mine are so comfortable I wear them 7 days a week.

I've had good luck with American made Carolina 8" lace up boots with a composite toe. You have to watch Carolina as some are made in China etc. I've bought the last few Carolina boots on line at Americanmadeboots.com they have different brands available and are very good to do business with.

Back in the 80s when I cut wood for a living, I liked LeHigh logger boots. I thought they were comfortable, lasted a long time and I could practically walk up trees with them. I don't work anymore, except around my acreage so I get $75.00 Walmart steel toe, waterproof, electrical, etc., lug sole China boots. These days I spend more time in the recliner or in front of this laptop with the boots off than wearing them.
