Hey everyone! Im in need of some advice, I'm currently looking at purchasing a 68' Case 930 Comfort King, only issue it has is that it won't let you shift into reverse.. Plus, the gear shifter feels as if it has a lot of play in it (up and down) any advice as to
What might have caused this? This is a diesel, with the fuel
Tank behind the seat. Any help Or advice woul be quite appreciated!!

If the shift problem is in the little range lever beside the steering column. The clamp on the range lever has slipped. You take the cover loose and slide it back in place and retighten. We had that happen once about 40 years ago so can't help more than that.

I would start by pulling the two 3/8s nuts that hold the shifting lever into the tranny cover. If all looks good there, you will need to pull the tranny cover and then the shifting basket with the forks to determin what is wrong.

tom is rite, follow adk guys advice ,,.,, I agree that seems like a shifter basket issue ,,.. mite be simple fix ,, could be expensive ,, but I would bet it is simply a lost bolt ..AND that is tumbling around in the belly of gears ,,. NOT A GOOD THING...if all else on the 930 is good ,,. mite be a honorable way to get a good 930 cheap ,,.. but I would do a open top autopsy before I did anything , you can excess from the narrow floor panel .. if there are hydraulic issues also .. it mite be best to remove the entire platform ..mite need to use the grinder on some bolts .. if ity is like my 930 , it will bneed rebolting and building anyway ,. imho ,.. the 930 is the best older simple power horse going , virtually bullet proof , and they hold their own againstmore modern tractors with none of the techy solenoids and electronix computerized trash that always fails when you need it the most . great for field work and decently nimble for yarding around the barns , and you don't have to worry about a switch shorting out and burning off the wiring and setting your barn on fire ,. ..
