Could have used the glow plugs today

It has been so warm this winter I have got in the habit of jumping in my truck and just cranking. It is in the upper teens now, not cold, but guess cold enough that the truck missed a couple of licks and then smoothed out. I guess I will have to slow down on starting for a little while yet. You get spoiled by the high pressure common rail systems that you forget that it is still diesel fuel.

My chore tractor starts that way - a 77 IH 886. It doesn't have many hours on it so it has the compression to do it. One of these days it will bite me, but I think I have only plugged it in twice this year. I put a new ether can on it but I haven't even used it, either.

Well David not letting the glow plugs do there complete cycle will shorten the life of the glow plugs and make you engine start harder. On a Ford like yours I IRC it is around $1000 parts and labor to replace the set.
