Cub Loboy rear tires

I have a loboy with a loader, it has wide turf rears. I also have a set of narrow ag rears. In the snow it is helpless, not enough clearance for chains on the turf tires and the chains lay between the lugs on the ag tires. So this gets me thinking about options. I see a lot of the newer semis running 24.5" tires, which are narrow and about the same OD as the ag tires. Chains would fit better, and have more clearance. I can pick up a couple steel 24.5 rims and tires for cheap, modifying them to fit loboy centers would not be difficult. Anyone tried something like this?

Doug-How much weight do you have on the rear. The loader, as you know, makes the rear a little light for traction. I had a like problem so I filled the rear tires with Windshield Wiper Fluid. Eight (8) pounds per gallon. I only put in ten gallons per wheel (80 lbs). Can't believe the difference it made. Got the fluid for .93 cents a gallon so around $20.00. Now, if you did not live in Iowa you could use water!!!

Real rear weights for a CUB bolt right on with two bolts and weigh a whopping 150 pounds each. Much easier than putting any liquid in your tubes. I don't know if you can double up with weights and water. That might be a little too much.

flip the rims so they're dished out and you'll have room between the fenders and the tires for chains. Thing is, it makes the whole unit wider and a little more awkward. I only did that a few winters with mine and then moved on to a different tractor.

Depending how much traction you need, you can use screw in tire studs for more traction. I have dirt bike studs in my forklift. Kold Kutter brand. Makes a world of difference over plain slicks.

Doug,
When you say turf tire and fender clearance, I assume you have a numbered series Cub LoBoy. There are wheel spacers for the Cub to give fender clearance for the chains.
