I worked on the combine today and tried to start it but couldn't get get the starter to engage I don't hear the solenoid clicking but the voltage regulator will click? Is there some safety switch Im not realizing? Also the clutch pedal doesn't want to move but it might rusted linkage the combine has sat for 2 years . Also I have juice to the starter and such.

Your clutch probably has a micro switch on the clutch linkage that won't allow you to start it unless the clutch is depressed. Also there is a neutral switch in the gear linkage that does the same. Sold a John Deere combine to a guy who knew nothing about combines. Spent a couple of hours checking him out on how to set and operate. He started out on a 25 mile drive to his farm. Withing 10 minutes he called and told me it would not go fast enough....he had variable speed in loweste range. He stopped for lunch at some restaurant and said it wouldn't start...gear shift was not in neutral. I checked him out on all these features just before he left the farm. I would have loved to have been on his farm for his first shot a shelling corn or combining wheat. I suspect he tore the auger off the combine first time he got near a truck, tree or building.

Many of those had a toe operated lever which latched the parking(transmission) brake, right behind the brake pedal. It was electrically interconnected so that the machine wouldn't crank, (or start, I can't remember which!), so that you would remember to unlock the brake before driving off. It wasn't fool proof however, as you could hit the latch while driving, hit the brake, and be driving with the brake locked on. Then, on the E, at least, if you were wanting to park to unload, you had to be fast with the latch, as hitting it killed the engine.
Also, on most of those machines was a big, master circuit breaker mounted low on the back side of the engine. Corrosion could get to them.

F, f2, or F3?

I've run all three, never had a brake or clutch related micro switch? Could be, but not on mine that I can recall.

On the hydros they -do- have a micro switch on the one gear selector, hi/Lo, it needs to be in the middle and might need a little jiggling. Won't help you you have a clutch, unless they put a micro on the shifter for neutral?

I had things go out on the starter, put -everything- in neutral and short the starter with a pliers head. Not recommended a real safety issue if you aren't thinking, but it can be a test......

Correct- no clutch associated switch. Maybe I'm going back to the E. I can't remember any more! My F2 had, I think, a light and buzzer to warn for locked brake? I can't remember on the F.

I get confused on these recollections, because now, on my CaseIH 1660, the safety start switch is on the clutch pedal.
