Ever since I hurt my shoulder a few months ago. A MRI reveled a torn rotor cuff. I have had limited use of my right arm, and a lot of pain. Doctor recommended therapy. Every time I went to therapy I left worse off than when I went in. I finally stopped going. I have almost complete use of my arm now. I Just need to be careful reaching for something heavy. The rotor cuff will never heal itself. I still need to have it repaired, but in the meantime I can use my arm without any pain, and started my blower for the first time in a few months, the chain saw is next. Therapy may be good for some things, but for me it wasn't doing any good for something that will not heal by itself. I was getting a little worried I would not be able to use my arm driving my tractor, as I use my right arm to steer with. Ok now.Stan

I think Stihl makes some electric start gas powered tools. I bough a nice used Stihl string trimmer from a guy with shoulder problems that upgraded to an electric start trimmer. The guy showed me his new trimmer, I was impressed.

I hope your shoulder gets better. Have you checked with another doctor to get a second opinion or other options?

I tore my rotor cuff in both shoulders (two different times) the key is too keep it mobile, I do almost everything, I use too just have to improvise when doing some things. I had friends who had the surgery, and it seemed they aren't much better off than I am.

I wish the very best for you. I have a friend that tore both in 2 different situations. The first was operated and it has healed pretty good. The other Dr. ordered therapy and he went to chiropractor for almost a year. It only got worse. He finally pushed for surgery. He lost a lot of use in the arm and even he hand.

Stan, you may be a quart low!!! Did you try rubbing castor oil all over your shoulder, back and arm? Try it. Relief isn't instant, but it's long lasting. I get a 6 oz of oil from Wal-mart. It's the cheapest and smell less than other brands. I've been using it for past 3 months and surprised how much good it does on my neck and arms. I apply it after shower, leave it on.

As for me, I gave up on 2 cycles years ago, could never start them. I purchased a husquvarna 4 cycle weedwacker. I don't use leaf blowers, but if I did, I would have to drag an extension cord before buying a 2 cycle.

I had rotor cuff surgery. Pushed hard with physical therapy and even set up ropes and pulleys in the shop to replicate what they had at the PT center. That was 10 years ago and I have full range of motion with only a reminder tinge of pain when I reach all the way back. It sure beats what was going on before surgery! I'm glad it was one of those things that could be fixed!

The Dr. told me about five years ago I needed shoulder surgery. He said I could try a
cortizone shot and gave me some exercises to do daily for the time being. I went with the second option. I still do the exercises with the big rubber band thing he gave me and shoulder feels pretty good and doesn't bother me. It took a few months for it to feel allot better at first.

I seen allot of shoulder patients in therapy a year ago when I was their for a knee replacement therapy. Most of them were hurting trying to make it through their routine. Although it didn't appear that any of us was having a good time there. No pain, No gain is how it goes, I suppose.

Had Mine done almost 13 years ago and it is great ! did only 6 weeks therapy
Doc said is was doing better then guys half my age , I was 55 at the time
No problems since then

When I had my right rotator cuff repaired in 2013, I bought a cordless electric weed eater because I couldn't start the one I had. After I healed, I gave the electric to my son that had just bought a house in Olathe, Ks. I wish you luck, but you should have the surgery before it gets any worse.

Chief, my story is almost identical to yours; same time frame. I almost opted for rotator cuff surgery last summer, but doctor said he couldn't guarantee that it would stay repaired. He warned that if I didn't repair it, I would lose some use of the arm due to atrophy of muscle tissue.

Today, no pain, but like he said, I've lost strength in my arm at shoulder level and above. For instance, I can't raise a full gallon of milk to the top shelf of the fridge--no pain, just no strength. Same with using a drill/driver above my head, or a hammer.

But what the hey, that arm served me well for 74 years; it's time I gave it a rest.

Had 4 tares in my right shoulder, had it fixed also in 2013. Dr.said that I would be out for 12 weeks and by golly he was right . Glad I had it done. Had a good Dr. and a very good therapist. I have 99.9% use of that arm now.

So I suggest that you guys with this problem to get it fixed as soon as you can, you wont reqret it.

Now I have pain in both of my feet. Not fun. I quess no cure.

I'm right behind you at 73. Like you said my arm and shoulder has served me well for 73 years, except for my motorcycle accident, in the 60's but that was my fault. Like to get a few more years from it, by just being careful, or possible sugery. Stan

A torn muscle is one thing; a break is another thing. I broke 2 in my right arm. I was scheduled for surgery and in the pre-ops, they decided that I had lung cancer and postponed the surgery. I went through a lot of test and they concluded that it was just a scar on my lung. I was re-scheduled for surgery and the doctor had a heart attack. By the time I had the surgery, the muscles had shrunk so far that they had to put some kind of stretcher on them to pull them back, drilled holes in the bone and sewed one back attached the other with screws. that was my right arm. I was about 60. I broke one in my left arm when I was about 70. Both times it was caused by a fall. The doctor thought it was only torn but when he got in there , it was broken. About 2 years ago, I was one handing a 12lb sledge with my right hand and re-injured the first one, decided to just live with it at my age. I'll be 81 in April. I can still start anything but it hurts. Got a 10hp chop saw that is the worst. Both a little weaker than they used to be and hurt some but, just put a starter on grandsons old Mercedes Diesel laying on back. Bottom line, have a MRI, if it is torn go home and act normal. just keep it moving, I don't think therapy does anything for a torn muscle. If it is broken, have surgery
