I have LP PS that is a "66 model. Does anyone have a good suggestion on locating IT manual? How many of these were made?

Thanks Patrick

If you are going to do any more involved service work than changing the spark plugs, ESPECIALLY if you have any concerns with the transmission, get a copy of the factory shop manual instead. NOT even sure the manual you are considering would even be of help to change the spark plugs.

For some reason I'm thinking that the shop or technical manuals (TM) are printed by some company out of Canada. I'm not sure why I have that in mind. I got my TMs through my local Deere guy, and each of them cost over $100 well over a decade ago. They aren't cheap. Maybe when I got them they had a label or something on them showing the printer was Canadian? I just scanned through them, and all I can find is Mother Deere though. Maybe you can Google it or try Ebay? I've never seen TMs on Ebay though. I've seen user manuals, but not TMs. Maybe bad timing on my part. I'd bet that you can still get them on your 4020 LP. I'm thinking the printer isn't Deere, but some private Canadian print company. I could be wrong.

Wait a minute, I just saw a link above "Tractor Manuals" in Modern View, and right there for $119 is your TM. They're still available.

According to tractordata.com during the years of production 63-72 8445 propane 4020s were produced, 8123 gas models and 168,311 diesels. Their 4020 data is not broken down by year or transmission option. So a 4020lp is not real rare. The farmer we worked with back in the 70s -80s down in KS had a 4020lp power shift. A few years back on another farm forum the topic of buy/sell of a 4000 diesel powershift came up. That is when I learned that only nine 4000 gas powershifts were made. That number came from tractor.data.com. I think it was confirmed by someone who had actual production numbers from Deere. I cannot verify any of the production numbers I provided here from that website.

Here's a 4020 TM from Amazon that will be better than an IT manual

i have a VERY early 4020 LP PS Standard with mid and rear pto, 3pt and dual SCV, I have the SM/TM on cd from deere, thats how i buy all mine, they are in a pdf form on the cd.

Used red mn - As far as tractor data, Mr Thinkers (over at gm) 2nd almanac does cover the transmission, fuel type, model type by the numbers. My wife cleaned off my desk and i dont have the book in front of me, but as soon as i can find it... Matter of fact, mine came from around winfield ks area...

An early 4020LP PS while uncommon is not "rare". If you do find some hack swapping a combine diesel in to a side console LP PS , take them aside and slap some sense into them.

tlock- this one was in the Marysville, KS area. I would have to make a call to my uncle to find out
the year the owner had his sale. I'm only assuming your considering the possibility that it may be
the same one.

used red mn,

yea, i only said that cause LP wasnt as popular that far north as it was in the southern part of the state, so finding a couple LP 4020's is kinda odd. I always kinda hope to meet or find out about people that had the tractors i have now. The history of how they get around always fascinates me.

Thanks for the reply, marysville is just west of me
