super M hydraulic problem

I have a 1947 super M I purchased and on its hydraulic system there is on hose coming our of the left side. When I use it, it will lift and lower equipment maybe twice then it will not let equipment down. have to shut off and leave set till next day and then it does the same thing. I have the belly pump removed and can not see any thing broken. does anyone have any ideas what to look for or have had this problem and solved it. Any help! Fritz from N.Dak. thanks

The problem could be with the cylinder on the equipment, and not the tractor. If there is one line that goes to the cylinder from the tractor, then there should be a vent filter connected on the cylinder where another line wound go.

if you have the pump out and the fluid drained, try putting some compressed air into the line with the valve in the down position. see if air bleeds into the resevoir. if it does, i would look to the hydraulic lines and couplings. the line may have an internal tear and a flap of line is blocking the hose. try another implement and different line on it and see if it works.

Iwould agree, make vents are open on both cylinder and pump/reservoir.Also,switch the hose to the right side. If you have it
hooked to the 'retard/delay' port it wont work right. BTW.If it is a '47,it is regular M, NOT a SuperM. SuperM was made
(very)late 52 to 53.39 to 52 were 'straight' M.Many an 'M' were decaled as "SuperM' in the 50/60 during a repaint.There are
several differences between the two.Look up M and SuperM on tractorData.comm to get the 'skinny'......

I have hooked it up to accouple of my rakes all with different cylinders all have one way cylinders on them and no change in performance. The cylinders work great When I put any of my other tractors on them.
I have taken the hose off and checked for defects thats okay. I checked the serial number plate it says SM on it and the number is F 14562 J So I may have the wrong year. Is there thing that is in the controls on the pump that may be stopping dthe flow back from cylinder? Thanks guys I will have to put the pump back in to switch the hose from left to right side to see if that works.

I had an H that would lock up going down. I had the hose on the left rear port to an open center valve. When it locked up I had to try & raise the disk, then idle the engine down & feather the valve to get it to go down. Something in that delay port is causing it I think.

If the implement is raised to the top and a bit more, the system tends to get jammed in the hold position. Make sure the hose is installed in the front left elbow. It is worse in the rear port on that side. Measure the rod length where it comes out of the light bar bracket. When it is pushed in with the implement down, make a chalk mark on the rod. when it is stuck, look at the chalk mark. If the rod is not all the way to the mark, my idea is happening. try not raising it beyond the willingness of the auto hold feature from working. (HOW) when lifting, the rod will latch in the lift position (let go of it) and the implement will continue to lift till the limits of the cylinder are reached, then the pressure unlatches the valve and the rod will go in to the hold position. If your loader or implement requires pressure that will not allow the rod to latch back, and you must hold it back to lift, the pressure is going to set the rod in a hard to lower condition. Use larger cylinders or more modest load to prevent this. Our M and SH stage one both do this when we lift with the loader beyond reasonable loads. Pushing in the ever to lower it can be difficult. (best info I have), Jim
