Old Ugly dorF Truck Home

After eight months on the sic list. Started out this spring with an empty brake fluid reservoir. It was at the shop a month or so and after it came back it was a few weeks before I wanted to hook onto the trailer. Again no fluid in the reservoir. Back to the shop for another month and when they got to it they found a cracked rear brake cylinder. Drove it to work a few times and the front seemed loose and pulled to the right bad and bounced. Took it to the front end shop where it set for a month or more to get the front end rebuilt and new tires on the front. When they test drove the truck to check their work they blew a rear tire. I told them to put four new tires on the rear which took two more weeks. I picked up old ugly and it drove like a new truck. Loaded 15 bales of hay on it and within a quarter a mile the transmission gave out. It has been at the transmission shop for two months. The had to order a upgrade kit as they could not find a replacement shaft for it the one that broke. The old shaft had a one inch ID bearing and Ford claimed they never use anything like the one in it. It had been rebuilt twice before. 2200 bucks the first time and 1800 bucks the second time. This fellow said it had one less clutch than it should have had so he added one. He said he was more reasonable if he was paid in green bills. 800 bucks this time. I had to advance him 300 bucks three weeks ago. I hooked onto the horse trailer loaded with a bunch of junk and will take it to the factory in the morning. I'll see how the old girl shifts. I hope it is ready to do some trailer truckin now.

Talk about stamina....I gotta hand it to you, you've got it!! I know what you mean though, I've got and old 78 Dorf myself.

Always nice to know you have a place to dump your extra money . And when you dump it into a old truck or tractor , it don't feel like your throwing it away, but just try to get some back out. I usually have to dump more in before I can claim any of the earlier value back. The whole time I keep telling myself things like , "ya it's a lot to spend on a old truck , but I only gave $5,00.00 bucks for it". And a new one would cost 40 Grand. And so it goes , and so it goes.

I have this idea that when an old crippled up old man comes in and they tell me the will get at in a week and some younger guy making a living or it is their only transportation comes in after they slide me back. They all treated me well on the cost.

It is cheaper than making payments and to old girl drives out like a new one. It is easier to drive 1500 miles in than my Caddy. I gave 6000.00 for it with just under 40,000 miles and put another 1000.00 in it before I could use it. I had to put a few hours in it.

So, if I did my math right, you paid $200 for someone to do rear brakes, 6 new tires and rebuild the front end. I would sure like to know where these shops are located.

I don't know how you dreamed that up. I never listed what it cost for brakes, front end work or the new tires. I paid 800 for the transmission this time. I bought the 94 truck in probly 96 to 98 without looking it up. Been a long time.
I was treated fair from all the local shops but have not looked at the totals. They just let it set before working on it.

This truck has been real cheap even with all the repairs. I started the post because there was some advise or opinions on what was wrong with the transmission when it broke. I thought those would be interested. Guess not. It has gave me a lot of years of service. I pulled two tractors out of Texas and a total of over 40 from all over with Texas being the farthest. A couple trips to Southern Oklahoma to move my bride to Ohio. Along with 10 years of tractor pulling.
