It seems book matches are now a thing of the past.Obsolete. I've been trying to buy a box of them. NO one in town carrys them.CityMarket says they cant even order them!....Can get wooden matches though, just dont want em(more expencive, too). Iguess everyone just uses lighters these days. No,I dont smoke. Just need to light the wood stove.

Yup, me too.

I've become impatient in my older years. Usually burning the trash involved finding some dry wooden matches. Now I just get my plumbing soldering torch. That big blue flame lights a bag of trash or brush pile pretty quick.

I just found the wooden strike on anything matches at an Ace Hardware store. They were $1.69 for a box of 300 and they had 30 or 40 boxes on the shelf.

You can still burn trash outside? that came to a halt in the 60's in California. My favorite thing to do was burn the trash, and play with the fire. Stan

 Can you burn irrigation ditches or.........?

They're hard to find here also. Earlier this year I stopped at a grocery store that I'd never been to , They at book matches 6 boxes of 50 books each I bought them all boy did I get some strange looks at the checkout

I have a couple zippos around, but my Coleman propane torch gets used most.

I kept strike anywhere matches in the truck when I drove. Picking up produce, the Mexicans would be passing around a half functional bic trying to light up on their breaks. Couple small boxes of matches went a long way toward getting loaded quickly. Late in the day often turned into right after lunch.

Local convenience stores always seem to have them, and I pick them up whenever I can. However quality has gone way down. Half hte time they don't have enough sulfur to light the cardboard.

"Light the wood stove"? C'mon Man, your supposed to start a fire with them, not heat the house. A box would last me 10 years. How many gallons of gas did you burn figuring out match books weren't available and wood matches are too expensive?

I quit smoking ten years ago, but still carry my Zippo lighter. Only I upgraded to burn butane. There's a company that sells butane torch inserts for Zippo lighters.

I agree you can get them somewhere but most matches have gone "out of favor" and most people use some kind of lighter. The best lighter I have seen is the old trench lighter made in WW1. That too is a scarce item now.

This is a very odd post, just buy a box of matches, 300 matches should last you a long time, I don't think this box is more than $2.50, my stove burns 24/7 very rarely do I have to relight it. Other wise you must have a propane torch, and a sparker, use that to start your fire.
