I have Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 2007. Some of the Word documents from Office 2007 will freeze rather than Exit when we click on Exit Word.

On the Microsoft Support website I found a solution which is a change to the registry. I know that can be dangerous if I don't do it right and so far I haven't attempted that. The change to the registry does say it will fix the freeze problem. Could the freeze instead be related to a virus?

Has any of you experienced this freezing in Word?

Before messing with the registry, create a restore point.

Its easy, learn how to, and do so before you do the edit.

You might also want to run any updates or patches to both windows and office. Often those patches contain fixes for those type issues, and there are usually a fair number released every Tuesday.

I would update and run your virus program and then update your windows 7. That might fix your problem for you.

On that same support page it would have given you instructions,
or a link to instructions to back up your registry before you modify it.
That backup is your "undo" button in case it goes badly.
What are they asking you to change? Some changes are harmless.
