JD 730 clutch

My JD 730 diesel clutch has GOOD snap but constantly disengages it self especially when it is cold or pulling hard. I have to hold it in with my foot, What is wrong? Thanks.

What happens if you engage the clutch with the tractor not running and rock the clutch handle back and forth front to back (almost disengaging it as you pull backward then pushing the handle back forward firmly till it stops)? Do you get a "wham-wham-wham" as you rock it back and forth? If so remove the flywheel cover and get a check on crankshaft endplay. This side-to-side movement of the crank can cause the problems you mentioned.

At this point you need a service manual for your tractor if you dont already have one.

I'll suggest the following supplier for manuals based on quality and price. They are much nicer than Deere's reprints and at a fraction of the price.

Pull the pulley off and check the the operating sleeve and the guide pin if much ware it will not stay in gear
