picture of executive firewood I split!

Well I have one customer that has very specific requests on everything we do and let's say a decent amount of $$. I've shared this before, but we got this ready yesterday and think it's funny each time. The firewood must be cherry, 18", split with no bark and hand swept before stacking a small amount on a special holder near the house. Yep, you read all that right. Needless to say, we burn all the split offs with bark. I probably don't get enough for all the hassle, but he is very good to me throughout the rest of the year. And no, there's no way this sets outside in the rain if you were wondering. It's on it's way in this picture to set in the barn. Have three more like this ready to go!

Well if the fellow is willing and able to pay for what he wants then its great. I had a few hay customers like that. They would pay top dollar and not complain IF you provided exactly what they ordered/wanted. The one fellow was demanding and I charged him accordingly. I was getting $5 a bale from him 25 years ago. I got to know him pretty well over the years. I asked him about the extra cost and such. He told me he did not mind paying for quality and getting exactly want he wanted. To him is was a bargain compared to paying less and not getting exactly what he wanted.

I had one customer like that, I just told them I didn't have that kind of wood! Most people are nice and seem to be happy with what they get, I have a couple of cords of select wood ready for my best customer this spring. We burn all the junk ourselves!

Cherry is not the best wood as far as heat output.
However, I like it as it coals up nicely and gives off a nice blue flame like other fruit woods; apple and pear, etc.
It also gives off a nice aroma when stacked on the hearth.
That is some nice looking wood and if you've got the time and he's got the money, why not?

The other "Golden Rule"-- "He who has the gold makes the rules". A lot of strange people out there. Just another business transaction. He sets the criteria. You either agree to it and charge accordingly, or decide not to participate.

Nice.
And good for both of you that you have a working agreement.
I like buttered toast in the morning.
I like that good 12 grain bread my wife buys and I like real butter.
Yes, I know that white bread and margarine are cheaper and maybe margarine has some other health benefits.
But I like toast with real butter on 12 grain bread.
I like just the right amount of butter and I like it applied just so.
Who's to say I can't have what I like?

I worked for a guy like that for 16 years, sadly he left NY and moved to Florida. One time he wanted a pile of brush moved, so he gave us 4 guys a $100 each to move it right then for him. He bought a house right on the training track at saratoga race track, knocked it down and had a new one built, before the plants and beds were even put in he wanted me to measure it for sod, I told him that it would not be an accurate estimates, he dident care. The funnyest thing was, his family dog died, so he had a nursery drop off a Norway maple tree for us to plant for the dog, it was about a 3" diameter trunk, we plant it, 2 months or so later he cuts it down and told us it wasent big enough for the dog, so he bought a bigger one and had us plant it. I miss that guy.

To each his own.

Way, way back when I was in the printing business, an elderly lady came in wanting 500 auctions bills printed. We worked all the details and she settled on "assorted poster" paper for the paper the bills were to be printed on. Assorted poster paper is a bunch of colors rotating through the stack. Only the lady didn't want any pink ones. I had to do a press overrun and have one of the office gals go through and pick out all the pink ones and pitch them.

Ultradog MN- I also don't like my toast cut in half, either diagonally or horizontally. I want it whole.

Now that reminds me of my dad.
I can still hear him complaining to mom that the sandwich bread did not line up.
He wanted his bread to be just like it came out the bag.
If you turned one piece of the bread to where one divot was to his right and the divot on the other piece was on his left he went to complaining.

I see some good ideas here, no bark means for the most part, no bugs to germinate in the warm house, right? And if it's swept, he makes less of a mess taking it into the house, which means less complaining from some loving person. And it's cherry, sweet. Costs just a little more to go first class, as Jim Rugg always said.

Most horse owners are certifiably nuts. I speak from experience. Have several horse owners in the family.

He just likes the cherry for the smell. They light a fire and watch football games. Heat output is far from his thoughts I think. We have plenty of
cherry around here. I grew up splitting silver maple and cherry. Junk fencerows are full of it. Funny thing is, you need a decent sized cherry
tree to get a lot of wood out of it with no bark!

This is probably one of the poorer looking pallet fulls. Usually it looks like we split a cant from a sawmill. I think this tree had some waves through it and didn't split as good. I said one time, want me to mix a little oak in with it? Nope!

At work we use the theory, The customer can have whatever they are willing to pay for. 99% of the time the response is send me the bill.

We had a tremendous crop of hay this year. Had some very nice timothy and alfalfa third crop so I pulled out the old square baler. Baled up six big loads and pulled them in the shed. Wife advertised them on Facebook for $6 each. A couple horse people showed interest and stated they wanted a few bales each. Each showed up with fancy short bed pickups and took 10 bales and paid cash. Few days later both wanted more as well as several other people. Seems like word gets around the horse community. We could probably have sold 10 times the hay we baled. Seems like good horse hay is hard to find? In a year hay is almost unsalable because of ample supply you still can sell quality small squares to horse people for a decent price. Now we have received several requests for hay next year but I'm not committing as I don't want to get into the idiot cube business very badly.
