Well that sucks!!!!! Now your down to a shovel???? I have a blower you can borrow. LOL Just a 1000 miles west.

My blower is in the garage, help yourself! Oops, its 1100 miles NW! There is almost no snow there, last winter too, we were gone for
3 months and drove right into the driveway when we got home.

Tecumseh that's half the problem. Sorry, never did like those for some reason.

It hurts worse when it happens to a tractor. Had a Farmall 504, that was the loader tractor, my brother was out tilling, ran a rod through the block. We bought a JD to replace it at a nearby auction, hate it since day one.

I had that happen to me with an 8hp Briggs about 15 years ago. Little different though, was on a racing lawnmower turning about 5000 rpms. Really did a job on the block, rod and piston.

Probably not, I think Larry is pretty fastidious. I'm inclined toward what was said above- The Tecumseh Factor.

That is annoying. It happened to me two years ago. But it was a Cummins 8.3 combine engine. No reason for it. But could it be that 2750 no load RPM is too much for that engine? Idiot engineers.

I'm hearing that the engines that Harbor Freight sell are good engines. Of course Honda engines good but cost more. Get electric start if at all possible.

Ouch . They never break till ya need them. Like last year , when i needed my junk Aries that always started on the second pull did not start , the coil died . Soooooo Craigs list here we go again. Found a little newer model of the one i had that the auger drive was not working but the rest was good . He wanted 90 bucks for it and it had electric start . Yea it was 80 miles away so on the coldest day of the year my buddy and i take a ride and drag it down to his place . Working in his warm shop was a lot better then working in the back yard . The previous owner had just spent a ton of money on all new pieces and parts for the auger drive qand it only lasted fifteen min. for him . Well my drive was good but my old blower was under four feet of snow . So we took apart the worm drive to see why it would not work. well the ownwer had put things back together wrong and left out one bushing and one seal . A trip to the bearing place got a bushing that would work and a seal that would work for a few bucks , i tried to get reg OEM parts but i would have to wait for a week our so and spend close to sixty bucks . I spent less the fifteen . Got a 7 horse with out electric start that needs a coil , ya can get a coil from O Riley?s .

Trouble is, some spendy stuff came apart inside in order to ventilate that block. And even if you manage to get it fixed, it'll still be a Tecumseh. Replacement engines are pretty reasonable at Northern Tool, etc.

OK, Larry, here's what you can do. Patch it up like what was suggested. Get a little citric acid and a brush to shine up the aluminum and make it pretty. Don't fix anything on the inside. Advertise it on Craig's and when someone with a funny accent calls telling you he will buy it and his shipper will come pick it up, swing a deal with him. His money will be no good, he will get in return something he deserves and you will have it hauled away for you. Sound like a deal?

Welp, now ya can buy a pretty new one! (or motor, at least)

Anyway... red's the next best color to rust. :)

My boy had a briggs on a john deere push mower, 6.5 hp. It put a rod out the side. I took engine
apart and you can see rod bolt came lose before it put rod out the side. Nothing anyone would
predict coming. Briggs didn't have any way to prevent it either, no metal tabs like most rods bolts
have.

So, now what is the backup plan??? The standby Italian backhoe?? Whatever you do, don't throw it away. You can't replace a snow blower for the cost of an engine.

Replace the Briggs on dads tiller with a HF knock off and it works great. Like $100 was all.

to bad we are not closer sell you a real nice 32" deere unit for 500.00 or a nice troybilt 21"unit for 100.00. if rest
is good want stick another motor on it doing that right now to to others in shop

I laughed when I saw
your title. I had a
buddy that would
always say "aww that
sh!+'ll buff out",
lol. Always said it
with a straight face,
even one time right
after we crawled out
of his totaled pickup
that he had just
rolled. I wish you
luck with the
snowblower, I will
also add that everyone
I know with one of
those Harbor Freight
Predator engines loves
them. I asked my
brother one time if I
could borrow his rear
tine tiller, he said
"sure, but after I
rebuilt it the
governor doesn't work
right, but it will
till just fine". Well,
I don't know how long
he ran it that way,
surging and over-
revving, but it only
lasted about 10
minutes for me before
it made the block look
like yours.

A world with one less Tecumseh is a good thing. I hate that it happened right during the snowiest
part of the year. I'd get a Harbor Freight blue knockoff. Everyone raves about them.

I only have one of those (Tech) engines on the place. It's on the cement mixer so I don't have to
think about it often.
