I had my wife look at this one and she agreed with me that was us until we sold our beef cows last spring. It is funny now but not so much then. Happy farming.

I was about like that last night when I got back in after putting a mamma cow and newborn in the barn. No help but my heelers and she really did not want to go in the barn. Got my hands and gloves soaked through and by the time I got milk down baby my hands were almost frozen. Both hands sore this morning. I got the job done though.

It never failed when I worked on my first dairy some old cow always had to calve on the coldest, snowiest, night of winter. And of course it was usually at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. Always wondered why the boss didn't have a heated birthing parlor. After I left that job he put one in.

Last night about 7 PM the doorbell rang. Man with truck asked if I had a cow out. No, I sold the cows and am out of cows right now. Was relieved to be able to say that. It was sleeting and snowing at the time. We got maybe 1 1/2 inches, some freezing rain, areas to the west got a LOT more. I'm 75 miles south of Charlotte, NC and TV showed the Panthers stadium being cleared of snow for the game Sunday, which has clear a weather forecast.

When I had livestock I would walk to the house in the winter with cold fingers and toes looking at the red glow from a sun that had already set in the southwest thinking about the lucky warm folks in southern California.
