OT - Snow - Round 1 and 2

Actually took a scheduled day off from work - for a change. Timely with the snow coming down. We're at the end of a dead end street and if we don't plow it, it's difficult for us and everyone to get in and out.

1992 Wheelhorse 520H (Onan twin cylinder 20 hp, hydro), 42 inch dozer/snow blade (can be mechanically angled center, right, left from the seat) and a foot control kit for quick fwd/rev movement. Weighted ag tires, no chains. I've had this tractor for years. Great machine - great design.

Trimmed up everything with a $50 yard sale MTD single stage 2 cycle snow blower. New gas line and a carb cleaning last summer and we were good to go today.

Hit the snow late morning and just a bit ago. Will hit it again tomorrow morning.

Inside, the wood stove stove has the living room at 75 degrees.

Life is good.

here it looks like about 11" with snow still falling and light breeze. 20 outside. plowed roads [we're not a real priority for VDOT] and driveways in neighborhood until about 21:00. It concerns me given the number of older folks around here w/ health problems.

We haven't been slammed by the 2 plus "feet" of snow they threatened everybody with. Maybe closr to 8 or 9 inches. We had a break in the
snow falling and it looked like it was over, but it began coming down again late afternoon.

Bob,

There is the old farm house and a smaller cinder block house down the lane. Both are well maintained and used by our family as lodging when we are frequenting the place - which someone is either up there every day and lots of nights spent there too. It is a great escape!

Maybe when I retire I'll take up residence there - we'll see.

Without a doubt - the old farm is a special place.

I'm not sure where you guys are in Va, but I'm on the Mason Dixon south of York, Pa. It's still snowing here at 2pm on Saturday and isn't expected to quit until sometime tomorrow morning. I can't see the house about 100 yards across the road right now, or my hay barn a hundred yards behind me. We already had over a foot last night. I remember doing snow on a Wheelhorse- but it would really take some time in this snow. If only I were that young again!!!

At,least you got nice equipment, I stumbled upon one of those best buy 520s a few years ago, old guy said the rods were knocking, wanted $495. with a nice 48" deck. Went to get it the next day, paid the 495 and loaded it and he asks if I want the other stuff behind the shed, it's a 4 ft. blade and a blower that looked like it was used once. Never did hear the rod knock but both head gaskts. were blown. 20 horse will blow a lot of snow.

Not sure how far you are from Gettysburg, but close by every June is a great gathering for Wheelhorse tractors. Worth the trip - might bring back some old memories.

I've got a another 520H just like that one - only about 60 hrs. My father in law bought it, it set in a shed for years and just before he passed, he gave it to me. Saving it for a rainy day.

I've also got a snow blower, single stage, and with the 20 hp Onan, it will definitely move some snow and throw it a long way. Most every house on my street has a front porch. If I wanted, I could put snow on every porch.

There is a smart guy on the Wheelhorse forum that designed and is selling a foot control kit for the hydros like what you've got. I put one on each of my 520H tractors and it truely turns a piece of heavy duty old iron into a pleasant to drive modern garden tractor.
