Veto of reforms to Clear water Act. ????

They already had the over ride vote. It failed. It still can't be implemented,by court order. GAO says EPA broke the law,two senators are asking the Justice Department to get involved.

So just what good has the EPA done in Detroit (I forget the exact town now too much lead tractor paint in my system) for all the lead in the water ? There was already laws on the books to prevent this but were not enforced.

This will affect a whole lotta people. Farmers are maybe front of the line, but anyone that owns anything that rain goes over that ever gets to a stream will be affected by this. It is total control of all land.

Now, they aren't going to come in and take over your land with armed guards next year. But, they can set up a network of rules and laws and regulations behind the scenes, piece by piece, and your kids will live in a -very- controlled and different world than we do.

I think we will all just be allowed to sit and fiddle with our smart phones, basically.

Food will come from South America and Africa will get developed. Real goods (undergarments and cell phones is really all we will need) will come from China.

We won't be allowed to do much of anything.

You certainly cannot be expecting the external_link/lynch DOJ to do anything about the administration's lawlessness....

I am a little negative on the whole deal. ;)

Our state has rules much tougher than fedral rules, so in most cases I'm dealing with worse than what is currently preposed there.....

I just hate seeing it get worse and worse. I see folks sitting in offices many many states away going to make decisions on how farming - or other occupations - should be ever more, and they don't know a darn thing about farming. One size fits all, and seems more and more feel good is chosen in favor of good science, good law......

Vote for BIG GOV types and this is the kind of legislation you get.

There's no way for the EPA to fully enforce WOTUS language but it opens the barn door to all kinds of "interpretation" when they decide they don't like you. Maybe they just want to hire half the people in the US to spy on the other half.

I wonder too. You see a lot of people placating themselves with electronic devices and bazillion worthless cable channels. Meanwhile, behind the scenes we're losing ground on liberty and privacy and having to endure more and more government control.

I am probably gonna be in their crosshairs. In 1995 I took the bait, and enrolled 14 acres in the creek bottoms in a CRP project. I planted the ground to trees. It is a CRP project for water quality and flood control. This ground is right along the creek. I re-upped the project once, and it is coming up soon for renewal again. I get about $1400 a year to let it grow up in trees. They are about 30' tall now.

I might as well re-up it I guess. So far they have never told me what to do with it, left me alone. There is a another 14 acre field down there I take hay off of, but I am not planning on doing any row cropping there due to the flood risk.

Not sure what else they could make me do, or not do.

I understand frustration with the government telling people what to do, but I also know that if we do not protect our water we will have bigger troubles ahead. Corporations and indiviuals bent on profit have proven in the past that they have no conscience about dumping waste in to the water system and I kinda like to think I am drinking clean water and that I can take the grandkids fishing in a reasonably clean river. Until it became enforceable here people would set up a mobile home and run their waste off into a sinkhole. That caused the groundwater used from wells to be unfit for human use so everyone had to go to the piped in water system as it became available. And a stream or drainage system on some ones land does not stop there, it affects many more down the way. And chicken waste seems to be a priority although I assume fertilizer runoff and other issues are involved.

When I was growing up there was a place just outside town where you took your trash and sat it on the ground and burned it. You would think this would cause a mountain of debris to clean up but once or twice a year the place would flood and the Mississippi river would just carry it all away.

the changes have very little to do with cleaner water. they have everything to do with control of property. any land that can let water run off into a ditch/stream/river could be subject to permits for such things as plowing or changing the crop mixture. the law is written so vaguely that it could be subject to interpretations 180 degrees apart. it needs to be stopped.
not even considering the CBO objections of EPA's impropriety.

elton fancher,
10 years ago I visited a friend in eastern Ky. His mobile home was on the side of a mountain. He ran his sewer pipe to the creek in his back yard and so did his neighbor. I'm glad someone is trying to clean up the air and water.

We have area planning in my county to prevent things like this happening. Before you can bet a building permit, you have to go to board of health to get their permission.

They also put a stop to people putting mobile homes in dad's back yard. All mobile homes must go in trailer parks. Killed the single wide mobile home business. Geo.

this not only effects the farmer, it effects everyone who owns a lot in town where they spray or apply anything on the lawn.

On the brighter side, I understand that DC is under a blizzard today. I'm praying that they get 100' dumped on them and that it doesn't thaw out for at least 6 billion years. I too have a dream.

And the head of the EPA said that she "...accepts full responsibility..." for it. Every time one of them "...accepts full responsibility..." for it, it generally results in a promotion and pay raise funded by we tax payers. In the private sector, you or I would get fired or go to jail, or both and our companies be fined or shutdown. Those guys...expand.

Here our city uses a ice slicer product, they put so dang much down the roads white,,, I lease some ground that has a natural drainage lake in it, we have had cattle die from drinking the water, all were killed by high "salt" in the water, I asked about it, showed them my finding,, they told me, they were applying it at a "allowed" rate so they were not responsible for the deaths or the extremely high ice slicer content in the water,, now I was also told if I had put any ice slicer in the water I WOULD be 100% liable,,, they as a "gov" agency they cannot be held to the same standards as I am,,, was I surprised Not even a little bit, Sure I want clean water, I follow the rules,, but like the city here many "gov" agency's Do NOT and that's seems "ok" as no one governs them,,, I quit spraying in 1999 other than spot spraying Canada thistle,, I use less than a gallon a year on 1200 acres of chemical, the city buys ice slicer by the semi load,, my question is why am I under the gun when I follow the rules and they make up what even ones they like and that's fine,, Wake up people, do research,, not all is true in what you are being told,,, Oh and the grammar Po-Lice here do not waste your time reading this as I am sure you cannot understand my poor writing skills

EPA has become little more than a device for special interest groups, which are often fronts for charitable foundations belonging to the Walton family (yes that Walton family) and Michael Bloomberg and the likes, to anonymously influence politics.

If the foundation participates in politics they lose their tax exempt (sorry, non-profit) status. But by making a large enough contribution, they can set up an organization like Western Watersheds Project to directly influence politics.

Any contribution made over a certain amount, they do not have to disclose who it was made to. Likewise, the recipient has no legal obligation to disclose who they received it from.
