Glad I'm not in mother nature's cross-hairs.

Listening to the news, some places going to get up to 24 inches of snow, some ice. In 1978 we got a blizzard, wind out of the north. Snow drifted, roads had snow higher than a car, roofs collapsed. I heard my house roof talking, so I got up on roof with a shovel and pushed all the snow off the south side of roof.

Ice storms always bring trees down and electric lines too. Ice storms and straight line winds are responsible for me being without power for up to 12 days. But thank God that's only happened a few times in my life time and the winds happen in the spring, so I've never had any frozen pipes.

I feel sorry for those out east, glad I'm not in mother nature-cross hairs. Hope they have enough fuel to power up their generators for a long time. They may not be going any place for a while.

I'm already sick of hearing about this storm. The Keweenaw Peninsula of MI got 47" of snow from the Jan 10 to 19, they didn't even close the schools. You watch, before this is done, FEMA will be involved. Deal with it!

I'm in the cross hairs today and wish we didn't have this third world electric grid , our infrastructure really needs some work, Europe doesn't have wires hanging of dead trees for an electric grid and we shouldn't either. frankly we deserve better and pay enough for it to be better. just my feelings about today for what it's worth and that's not much.

dblair,
I never was a tree hugger, I'm the opposite. I hate trees planted next to power lines and next to buildings. Trees have been responsible for damaging my buildings and knocking my power out for extended periods. Recently I've had over 20 trees removed next to my buildings. Daughter just had 12 trees taken out of her yard.

People just don't think where they plant trees. People plant trees and sooner or later they need cut down or they will do damage.

Perhaps people should pay for their trees damaging power lines.

After the weatherman's performance last year, I will believe it when I see it. Last year they cried "wolf" at least 3 times. One time, the "storm of the century" amounted to less than an inch of fresh snow. Another time, they closed roads, closed schools, declared a state of emergency, and then we got...............wait for it...................................NOTHING!!!!!

At this pint, I REFUSE to structure my life around weather reports. PERIOD!!

P. S. The same idiots that cannot get a 3 day forecast right expect me to believe in this whole "global warming" thing happening in the next 50 years or so. HA!!!!!

Yes, we pay enough to have better service - but then our local power (coop) gave a million $ to the Cardinals Football team, so now there is no money for good service. Something stinks to high heaven about that deal. I do believe we need a new board of directors.

It should give you a warm and cozy feeling inside that our fearless leader in Albany, copying his idol in Washington DC, has just announced another 5 billion $ grant to subsidize alternative energy sources.
Here we are awash in fossil fuels, and we are so rich we can still throw money at windmills. Infrastructure? What's that? You mean the electricity doesn't just jump to where it's needed, like radio and TV?

Hey Hoosier Neighbor, Its that darn Global "WARMING"

When I was a kid and there was snow or rain or heat spells, we simply called it WEATHER as the climate changed and evolved and cycled as it did for gazillions of years. Now after the country was warned in the seventies of global cooling and the coming of an ice age, then later they changed their minds and changed the warning to global warming, but to cover all the bases in case it was warm OR cold (probably Bush' fault), they re labeled it as "climate change" lol YOU CANT MAKE THIS STUFF UP......

A country boy can survive and I expect mother earth and God (in whom I place my trust instead of Algore) will deal with it as they have long before Algore came on the scene lol

according to the guy that USDA sent to survey damage from last Feb 21 ice and wind storm my still place was not only in the crosshairs it was center of the bullseye! Im still cleaning up and been out $20,000 plus so far. I have spent every spare minute and still have a ways to go. Still several cross fences to repair. I hope none of you guys get hit very hard. Yeah, it's mid-Jan. and it's gonna snow. Big deal. My son-in-law lives in Va. He said the snow they got was slushy, which is the most difficult to drive in, but he said the treacherous part was all the other drivers. Cars abandoned in the middle of the road, that kinda crap. Yup, you herd it right. Inch and a half of snow and cars abandoned in the road. Daughter said it's near panic down there. By the time she got out of work the store shelves were about bare. She needed a loaf of bread and there wasn't any, of course, so she bought a bag of flour and several packets of yeast. She baked a couple of loaves last night. She said one of the problems is that almost no one even has the all-season type tires on their cars, so when they do get a bunch of slop on the roads, they really are in trouble.

I can deal with the snow , Now ice when it cold enough even salt does not work. Of the fiftyfour years of driving i have only missed out on winter driving two year while i was in the service . so that means i have had a bunch of winter. The one year our weather guesser said we would get 4-6 inches of snow , well it started snowing around dark . at seven P M the dog asked to go out . So i let the dog out and took the broom and swept the back steps and a little of the side walk of about three inches , at about ten dog say hey i need to go out again and i swept another three inches off the steps . The War Dept and i stayed up till a little after midnight and just before we went up to bed i let the dog out for one last outing and swept another three inches off the steps and walk . Weather guessers were still talking 4-6 , Must be the new math. Being it was Saturday we were not in a big hurry to get out of bed when the room got light . Till i hear a engine running . So i get up to see just what nutty neighbor is making noise at 8 on a Saturday morning . Looked out the ft. window and i see the nut case across the street out with his new Craftsman 28 inch 12 Hp snow blower with the tall spout and i can only see about four inches of the top of the spout sticking up above the snow and the top half of the Fat man in his red sportcar cap . And it is still coming down hard . Yea our 4-6 turned into 27-30 With wind . My street that is a main state route is litterly CLOSED . All i had for a snow blower back then was a junk Atlas five horse twenty inch , my spout did not even come close to being over top of the snow and just where the hello is it any way as it was buried under the tarp. Tractors are all out at the farm so that is of no help. My one ton 4X4 ain't going to get out so why even try as i would have to dig my way to it to start with . The snow in my turn around and drive is chest deep. due to the blowing and drifting. So the phone still works so i call my buddy and said ya think that you could bring in the skid steer once you get dug out . He calls back three hours later to tell me that they are still digging there way to the barn with grain shovels and they are about a third of the way to the barn from the house as they can not even walk thru it as it is in places seven to eight feet deep. BUT we were only going to get 4-6 inches.

Yes al gore is an idiot when it comes to global warming or maybe not it made him filthy rich.Oh and don't forget he invented the Internet! Not lmao

It makes for good TV. They just send cameras out instead of having to write a script and film it on a sound stage.

In 1969 I was stationed at FT Beloir Va. They got the first snowfall of the year and cars were in the ditch accidents all over schools were closed factories were shut down because of the snowfall. The totals were so light on the ground you could almost make out the white. I still shake my head when I think about it

When I was a child it was the Atomic Bomb testing that they blamed the weather changes on. OH well always have to have something to blame the weather on.

When I was a kid, my mom blamed our weather on NASA. Rockets poked holes in atmosphere she claimed

Well right now in South Jersey it is 29 degrees and over cast. The radio and weather channel are calling for 16 or 18 inches with lots of wind at 30-35 mph and possible 50 mph gusts. Snow fall of 1 to 3 inches per hour. The center purple area of forecast goes smack over top of me and I mean right SMACK in the middle. Snow band has just gotten to the DC metro area as of 12:30 today. Looking at a 36 hour event. Tonight SEPTA is shutting down all bus lines and trains and trolleys too. PHL airport has canceled all flights already. Thing is this was forecast over a week ago plus before the system was even over Washington and Oregon states. I am going to go and play with my big bad Expedition 4WD cause I go to work this afternoon , and Saturday, and Sunday. Whoooope! Now it is going up to 46 degrees on Tuesday . Go figger. Going to play in the snow a little with my CUB tractor just to drive around with it. My BIG bad Gravely is all set and ready to go with the 28 inch DOG EATER on front of it. Think I will stop at the market on the way to work and pick something up, anything.

One big storm problem in wash.D C is that as soon as one big slow down occurs cars start running out of gas. Evidently many folk cut it way too close for winter driving.

Just proves man influences weather. We talk about it, heats the air. Cause wind to blow. Changes climate change.

I should learn to scan and post...I have a November 1969 Science and Mechanics magazine with the cover headline reading "Experts say a New Ice Age is Imminent".. Shows skyscrapers in New York and Chicago covered with ice!

Living in Massachusetts, I can't but say "GOOD! - they can have it for a change". If the predictions are right, this one isn't going to touch us.

We live in the nuisance zone for snow. We seam to get part over EVERY storm. It doesn't always amount to much, but it makes up for it in regularity.

Most years it's not enough to justify a snowmobile for me, but enough to make me want one.

I'd rather have either more or less. I'd be happy either way.

But I'm glad this one's missing us completely.
