OT Price of Propane

Seeing the price of oil and gas and diesel fuel is going down, Why is the price of propane going up. Is it because its been so warm in the northeast that they haven't been selling enough? I just got a delivery and it went up 5cents a gallon more than last month. I think it's a rip-off.

The rip off is that the propane comes out of the ground, goes to a cryo plant that pays 38 cents a gallon for it, then it gets stripped and smashed, then loaded on rail cars and sold for 40 cents a gallon.

So, they give the land owner 38 cents, then sell it for 40 cents, and none of us can buy it. It's bullsh...

John_PA- "The rip off is that the propane comes out of the ground,"....No Natural Gas come out of
the 'ground', Propane comes from the petroleum (oil) when it is refined in the refinery.

Propane loading yard about 7 miles from me...

This article describes precisely what I am talking about, and what you are not familiar with(reasonably so, as this wet shale gas is relatively new.) [/url]

I guess we can't edit posts anymore...

Forgot the picture of the new propane tank 7 miles from me...

INTERESTING that you would take all the time and trouble to make that post and NOT tell us what you paid.

I paid $.79 cash for the refill of a 500 gallon tank a couple of weeks ago, and I'm gonna GUESS I overpaid.

WHAT are you paying?

No not right. Just about equal amounts of propane are made from natural gas and refining of crude oil.

Yall should not complain. I priced it yesterday. The cheapest place here is $1.69.
I bought my own tank, so I can get 10 cents a gallon off that price.

$2.87 a gal. In NH right now. PA isn't that far, maybe I will buy a tanker and go there and get it.

One year (wet fall for crops... and a very cold winter) the price was high when I called to order a delivery, I asked why. The guy said, "It's because demand is so high this year."

The VERY NEXT year (dry fall and a very mild winter) the prices was also high. I said, "Ouch! Why are the prices so high?". The said, "It's because demand for LP is down this year."

So apparently, you can't win.

Hey John, who is building the tank? Looks pretty much like how we built them 60 years ago!
Houston is about 25 miles from my place; they are big on high school wrestling down there

Had my shop tank filled a couple of weeks ago for $1.03 off the truck. I contract my house propane with a "keep filled" agreement, so I usually just make the monthly budget payments and don't worry about the price. Without looking it up, I think this year's contract was $1.40 per gallon. Every spring, they adjust my account one way or the other.

Just filled up at .99 but get .20 discount if paid in ten days cash/check so .79
Purchased 2nd 500 gallon tank and it's paid for itself as they wanted over 1.50 gallon when using "their" tank.
Finally maybe break even after the gouging 2 years ago where they wanted over 4.00/gal

SE Minnesota. I just bought 600 gallons last week, $.98 a gallon. The price was $1.08 with $.10 off with cash payment.

I'm sorry about not posting what I had to pay for propane. I heat with it. The price per gallon was $2.20 and if it is paid within 10 days they knock off $.30 per gal. What really burns me up is a $7.95 compliance charge every delivery. I know it doesn't do any good to rant, but I feel better. Thanks for the comebacks

Had something like that with fuel oil for the furnace several years ago. It was a few cents higher in May than it was in February. When I asked why I was told it was because they weren't selling as much right now. ...??? lol How is that supply and demand?

That is Markwest's tank. They are done with it now, and have a giant Markwest logo painted on it. You are up the hill from the mess that Shell is making over at Horsehead. They sure did go bonkers taking trees and hills out. Coming out route 18, I didn't even recognize where I was until got under route 60. Lots of giant quarry or strip mine dump trucks excavators and dozers over there. They are not wasting time building, even with the price down in the dumps. I guess the whole complex will eventually house petrochemical manufacturing onsite, so it will provide a local market for the wet gas.
