I am not going to convert the MH44 EFI to port injection this winter, but it still intrigues me. This is an easy process if each cylinder has its own intake port, but gets complicated when ports are shared. Modern engines have intake ports on one side and exhaust ports on the other, so no ports are shared. Older engines shared ports, probably to warm the intake air for better mixing, by sharing an exhaust and intake manifold.

I do not believe the later 2 cylinder JD's shared runners, please comment.
 
Clearly I haven't thought this through so just work with me.

Do you suppose a guy could take two heads and cut them lengthwise, weld them together, and have an engine with a spark plug port on each side? One could be for fuel injection. Because of the workings you would like only take a third off of the spark plug donor.

Better yet, some of the early Farmalls had cups you put fuel in and turned the petcock to run it into the cylinders for priming. Do you suppose you could take your Massey head and run a vertical hole for each cylinder for injection. You would need some sort of pipe conduit to keep it from the oil under the valve cover. You could just run four holes in your valve covers.

Or you could just drill and tap holes opposite of the spark plugs. All of those other ideas are too involved. Lol. That's what happens when you sit down after lunch and your mind wanders.
 
I think the best solution is to do the best you can on the one you are working on with no individual port injection. If you get it under control well enough to produce good power, and idle well what can you expect to achieve with more effort? Make it nice. If you want to go farther find a tractor with cross flow heads, or use a real modern engine with 4valves and a cam or two in the head. Jim
