starting the 434 IH

Hi
Just wondering what could be the problem with the 434 this winter. It always started well in cold weather, just a click on the key "when glowed".Last winter it started not wanting to start right off, took a bit of turning over, and now this winter it dosn,t want to start at all, just "chug, chug on a cylinder or so,for a min. or so,then it finally evens out on all four cyl.I glow it ,as usual.Seems that every year it gets harder to start...
Could the injectors be getting dirty,or bad?..does the injector /fuel pump go bad on these tractors, and do i need to oil the fuel pump?.Any info would be great. Thanks!

Hi Glen, battery, glow plugs and crankcase oil. Also are you using the same Diesel fuel? Winter blend starts easier. There is a
replacement fast heat glow plug kit available for British Diesels. Once it goes below 0*F then it is block heater time.
Spent many years in the seat of B414 and 434.

New oil change this fall 15 w 40 ,new battery last spring,it sits a lot during summer months. It started well a couple years ago - 20 C ,,now it needs a bit of coaxing and glowing.Ill try a winter blend fuel.

Ill also check my glow plugs.Just was wondering if i need to oil the fuel pump...i believe i had an old Ford 3000 and there was a place to oil the pump.

Hi Glen, 434 has a DPA/CAV Rotary injection pump that is self lubricating from the Diesel fuel. The only problem is that today's
low sulphur Diesel fuel has less lubricity than when the 434 was built. Solution is to add some Diesel fuel conditioner or a table
spoon of 2 cycle engine oil every time you add fuel to the tractor.

Are the glow plugs actually working? The keyswitch can go bad (holding key partway for glow plugs)
