Case 2290 Three-Point Hitch

I'm working on a 2290 for a neighbor that broke a cable connected to the rockershaft that suppose to keep the hitch from going to high. It pushed the piston thru the PTO housing. I have replaced the piston and cable and got it back together. Hitch is all way up and don't want to go back down. I am not familiar with Case tractors, so I am wondering if I have problems somewhere else that caused this problem to start with. I expected the new O-rings to be tight but not like this. Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

make sure the rockshaft has a little slop when raised up, what happens is the cable breaks and the cylinder fully extends which breaks the housing, the draft o matic valve controls 3pt. function

Sounds like sensing lever/control at console is not fully forward. Also, hitch need to stop raising before running out of upward travel as other poster said. This adjustment is made through pipe plug located upper LH PTO hsg.Reach through w/long extension and 7/16" deep socket and tighten nut/linkage till you have good slop/upward travel in hitch arms when fully raised. Might weld socket to extension to keep from dropping inside rear end. Early 20/2290's did not have plug to gain access to hitch cancellation adj. If yours doesn't, fine one that does, measure location and drill/tap for one on yours.
