John Deere Show

Just wondering how many out there had similar experiences in school. Started first grade in 1963, small town in centeral North Dakota. When the John Deere Show was on at the local dealer it was shown at the small community show hall in town. They would run it twice, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. The morning showing was for the school kids, we all would get bundled up and walk the 3 blocks from school to the show hall. Grades 1-12 went, about 150 kids at that time and the show hall would be packed! (Wasn't really a theater or "show hall" as we called it, was the local dance hall in town with a screen on one end and a old carbon-arc projector on the other end with a flat floor between them). I remember going to these shows, my Dad had a few 2 cyl. John Deeres and I just loved seeing the new tractors on film. Small town, people moving on, the John Deere dealer closed when I was in the 4th grade, I remember they had a auction late in the fall of '67, was sad to see it closeing even at thae age of 10. Anybody else where the whole school went to the John Deere Show? By the way, still LOVE the sound of those 2 cylinders, It's a beautiful noise!

I think what you are referring to they called it John Deere Days around here. Dealers still do them, film and door prizes and food. Parts discounts that week too.

I think most of those are available from the Two Cylinder magazine. There are 24 DVDs listed to chose from.

They had JD Days show in local theater in the town where I went to high school, but didn't do anything for the school kids.

In the next town down the highway they had International day in the local theater there. As often as I went to those shows, I never won a door prize. Liked the show that IH put on better than the JD show.

Thought they were discontinued years ago. Last ones I saw had to go out of state to see, local dealers did not have.

We were a CASE family but when the JD show came to the local ELKS hall we were there. The hall was packed. They served treats of some kind but he best thing I remember was the little JD booklet with a short JD pencil. Memories are great.

I remember them as a kid in the 50's. Always an interesting movie, hot dog, and sign up for "The Furrow" for another year.

We always had one in our town up until the late 50's. It was gone before the New Generation tractors came on the scene. Since my dad was the service end of the Deere dealership and also ran the theater projectors as a second job I was always there and usually working.. I still have a poster from one of the last ones that were shown.

John Deere "day" was a yearly occurance in Jonesville, Michigan where I went to high school and from about the 6th grade on (1946-1952) all the farm boys got excused to go to it. It was held at the movie theater about 1 1/2 blocks from school. Great time in those days. International Harvester put on a good evening show, in February 1947 I believe it was, at the high school gym in North Adams where the local IH dealership was. I'll always remember the introduction of the new Cub and C models along with the info on their crawlers and logging equipment besides all the H and M stuff. After the movie there was a "Country Boy Comedian" who put on a pretty good act that brought a lot of laughs from everyone. It was about 4 above zero that night and our old '38 Buick just barely started to go home...6 volt batteries didn't have much "reserve punch", but Thank God we made it home okay....
