And to think, I could have bought a BUNCH of tractors and built buildings to house them all. Guess I did save money by not playing tho. LOL

Jon,

I rarely play those games, but I did buy one single ticket. Figured I'd spent more $ on things that didn't even have those odds of winning!

I walked into convinece store at 9:03 last nite and first thing clerk said powerball sales are over for tonite. I said didn't want to buy one, was looking for something else.

I stopped buying tickets when the price went to $2, so I'm not even in the game, but I smell a rat this time. Eventually there will be a winner, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the winner is already a multi-millionaire.

I usually buy one ticket, fully realizing that my chances of winning are virtually identical to my chances if I had not bought a ticket.

That is a good post!!! I saw people lined up to buy tickets yesterday. I saw a fellow I KNOW only makes $250 or so each week and he bought $40 of power ball tickets. The lottery is a poor man's income tax. I do not see many millionaires saying they got their money buying lottery tickets.

Another frightening thing is the percentage of the big winners that are bankrupt in relatively short periods of time after winning.

I personally would not want to win that much money. Your life as you know it would be over. Every Tom, Dick and Harry would be on you for money hand outs.

Funny! I did work with a fella who won $47M in the Florida lottery years ago. He had a routine... came into the office early, brewed coffee, grabbed the paper and sat down in one of the breakrooms and read it. This particular morning he was reading his numbers and realized he'd hit.

He had a mini panic attack, trying to figure out what to do and what NOT to do, and then swiftly walked out the door never to be seen again. A few weeks later his wife came in to pick up a few of his pictures, but only spent approximately 5 minutes there total.

Hate that guy.

;)

A co worker told me it was a waste of money to buy lottery tickets...I asked him what are my chances of becoming a millionaire if I don't but any????

I seldom buy a ticket because it's a waste but every man has his price, half a billion is mine . I gives me and the wife something to talk about. It does seem like something fishy is going on this time.

I thought about this too and I've decided to not buy a ticket. I'm not rich by any means but I don't want the many hassles winning a billion would bring. I value my friends and neighbors and I know life with them would never be the same if I won that money. I want to be thought of as guy with a few small talents and enough money to get by rather than that guy who won a billion dollars, and all of the not-so-kind small town rumors that come along with it.

Expanding on JD's post a bit, it also seems to me like the too many of the folks buying lottery tickers are the losers or who are too lazy to work. I am certainly not saying ALL of those who buy tickets are losers. I have bought a ticket or two so I am not free of sin either. LOL

Yeah, that was my price too. By the time I brought a ticket it was up to .9 Billion.
I guess I'm stuck being in till it's over.

my neihbors brother won 8 mill several years ago . bought cars a couple houses in different resort areas retired so to speak. (quoted from post at 09:57:39 01/10/16) I don't smoke, I don't drink, don't do recreational drugs.
My Wife won't let me chase women.
So a few bucks a week on lottery tickets isn't a bad thing.

Always told my first wife "I don't smoke, drink, or chase wild women". Took her a few years before I had to explain you don't have to chase wild women.

Unfortunately, I could buy $8 million on old tractors and cars and stay pretty busy with that. I do respect Jay Leno in his car collecting endeavor.

BUT, I don't consider myself poor so I refuse to pay the poor peoples' tax.

Got a buddy that retired from Quick Trip. They called it the "poor tax", even to customers, until their manager got on them.

I really have respect for the guy going back to work when he got bored instead of sinking into a destructive habit.
